I just got my request sheet for AMHR Futurity Judge. I think that it is so cool that the members get to pick the judge, but don't know much about many judges.

I don't get mad at any judges call, because they have been asked for their opinion and that is what they give.

But, I wish I knew more about what they like and what their horse background is. So, I think that all the miniature judges should have to write up a little resumé to put on our web site. It is just too expensive to haul and show your horses to a judge that doesn't like your type.

The best show putteroner I ever knew, always tried to have a variety of judges who's background stemmed from different breeds, because a miniature horse show is like an open show.

Thats funny Renee, Mike and I were having the same discussion yesterday. Who should we vote for...? Most of the names we came up with are judges we are familiar with who have judged shows up here in the "nort" country and have judged at nationals in the last couple of years.

I agree it would be nice to have some kind of resource that we could use when coming up with ideas.....

Wish everyone thought like you - I was at a show last year where one of the judges had a very "stock horse type" background. She was placing quite differently in halter than the other 3 judges - and it was noticeable that she was taking more of a stock type horse and that she was paying a lot more attention to legs and straightness! Unfortunatly, the comments from the exhibitors (especially, I'm sorry to say, the larger barns that were there) were incredibly derogatory, along the lines of making sure she didn't judge anywhere again. This judge was not placing poorly conformed animals, just not the "Arabian" type.

EXCELLENT idea! It would be so simple to post this on the ASPC/AMHR website, and for each judge to complete a short paragraph listing breeds they have raised, shown, other judges cards they hold in other breeds and their years of experience in each. Having worked on putting on shows in the past - it truly was a "shot in the dark" when hiring judges if you had never shown under one of them! Right now, the only information we have is their name, address, phone and whether they hold a Sr. or Jr. (for lack of a better word) card. Not much to go on!! Yes, you can ask for that when making a phone call to them, but why not level the playing field and get better information out there??

And it would be good advertising for them. I would love a picture, of them too, so I could remember them.
