Hi Group!
I'm so excited.........my little leopard
: boy is finally home. I've been waiting so long for this! It didn't happen without alot of drama and excitment though!
As most of you know, we raised alpacas before buying minis. We had 3 left here at home, waiting for the last female to birth her cria, so they could be sent to the new owner. Monday, of all days, after being over due for 2 weeks, she decided to have her cria. Right after delivering the new cria, the phone rang, and it was the hauler. He was a 1/2 hour away, and needed directions! It was raining all day here, only around 51 degrees, and even though we were in the barn.......it was a task trying to get this baby dried off, get it warm, and up nursing........while trying to give directions to a hauler, and then get my little guy off the trailer when he finally got there. I felt so bad, I was worried about the little alpaca staying warm all day, that I didn't even have time to check out my new little one. After I finally got the heat lamps up, baby had nursed a big drink, and seemed content and warm (thanks to a hair dryer!), I finally went over to visit with the new boy. Oh, he's better than I had hoped! He was scared, and didn't want to be caught, so I ran him in the catch pen. He let me walk right up, and then we spent a moment or two blowing in each others nostrils. What a sweet boy he is! He'll be very easy to get along with, I can already tell, and I'm already in love!
Day two (Tuesday).....I finally had more time to work with him. After a few moments of give and take pressure with the lead line, we were walking around the pasture, slow, but we were leading!!! :aktion033: And with a bunch of hugs, and some lovin', I was able to walk very slowly up to him without having to run him into the catch pen. They sure learn quick! One thing I really like, is he doesn't care where I touch him, with exceptions of going down to reach for his legs, which will come with work. He has a very pleasant personality, and we're going to get along just fine.
Here is a photo of him that I got from the breeder I bought from, it's pretty recent, taken only 2 weeks ago. I haven't yet named him, and haven't a clue what to call him! So if ya'll have any ideas........feel free to toss them my way!
