We have a foal that developed hoof problems when our old farrier was overly hesitant to trim his hooves. We took him to the University of Florida and their Master Farrier, Adam Whitehead used a plastic ibec glue-on baby shoe on his rear hooves originally. Now after the second visit he only has one back shoe and the other hoof is built up slightly with an acrylic or epoxy substance. These interventions have allowed the hooves to start growing straight from the coronet band. This was of course all preceded by xrays to insure that there was no structural abnormality. You can reach Adam through the University of Florida's Large Animal Hospital at 352-392-2229.
