Hi all!

I have a 1 year old Mini Max. I am having a bit of issues with firstly his locked stifle and secondly now he has been limping on his front legs. I checked his digital pulse which doesn’t seem to be bounding at all. We have been having trouble with a new farrier we have been using. The first time she trimmed his hooves the toes were left too long. I had my vet out because that’s when his locked stifle issue started and my vet fixed/filed down his hooves to improve it. This time it seems as if his heal is too short or his hooves are too short. I will post pictures.

I also have been having an issue with Max looking bloated. We recently had a fecal done, waiting for the vet to give us the results. We worm him every 2 months with the direction of our vet alternating wormers. One month we do strongid then we do ivermectin, then panacur. Max is on 8 ounces of enrich 2 times a day and Timothy hay.

Max is our first horse, we board at a horse stable. I am very worried for his welfare and health and want to make sure I’m doing all I can for him.

is there a database to find a good farrier? We don’t mind trailering him to a farrier as well. We just want to do what’s best for him. Thank you in advance for any advice and your insight.

I hope someone knowledgeable responds to your hoof question.
I would not do the worm regimen for a while. Parasites become resistant and it's harder to control them. I suggest you take a fecal sample to the vet and see if there is a parasite issue before administering wormer again.
I wonder if using a prebiotic would be useful. It works differently than probiotic. Also, I would ask the vet about a dose of Banamine paste. One dose and you should be able to tell a difference if he is in pain.
The mare I have now was having some gastric issues when I got her. I started using Aloe Vera and she cleared up in a few days. I got it at Walmart in the pharmacy section. I gave her about 2 ounces, top dressed on her feed once a day. I still use it on both horses. He should have free choice hay, imo.
It's such a worry when we have trouble figuring out what is going on with our animals. You have such a handsome boy; hope you figure it out soon.

Just make sure the aloe vera is the ingestible variety, as there are quite a few topical products.

Put your hand around each of your fellow's legs, just above the hoofline. Do any of them feel unusually warm? If yes, let your vet know. I'd also talk to your vet about his stifle, which is easily correctable.

Left front (I think it is the left front, it is the side veiw photo with feet pointing toward left and leg has a white splash mark) looks slightly interesting. It appears that there might be an indentation running vertically from coronary band to the ground a little to the outside of center of the hoof. That could mean someting structural is going on inside the foot, usually from being unbalance in trimming. My mini has one. Also, right above his fetlock looks slighly thick or "filled" to me, but both of those things I mentioned seeing could be from lighting. Does he have any heat in his fetlock, cannon bone area?
Another thing, has he ever been laminitic? That's another concern, especially if he is on grass now that it is Spring. Their feet don't always have to be carrying heat to be mildly laminitic.
If you don't mind trailering, usually bigger equine hospitals will have a farrier you can truck in to see. Expensive, but worth the $
Those are my two thoughts and probably not worth two cents, lol.
I hope you get him straightened out, he is adorable. I always wanted an appy mini just like him.
Oh, probiotics might help the bloat. I use Emerald Valley Benegest Pro.

You'll also notice on looking at the bottom of his left front(I think) he's starting to flare to the inside. You can see a bit of separation from the wall starting at his toe and going around the inside. It's easily corrected especially this early with a few good trims but shouldn't be making him sore at all.
