I board my horses but i still have a horse liability rider on my homeowners ins---my rider runs $100 per year. Yours sounds like a good deal at $30/year!

Yes and it is a great idea covers you and your horses at shows or any place else they might be

OUR HOMEOWNERS WILL NOT COVER ANIMALS. ) WE HAVE THE PROBLEM SINCE WE DID HAVE A FUSE BOX WE COULDN'T CHANGE TO ANOTHER INSURANCE GROUP, MOST NOW REQUIRE BREAKERS IN YOUR ELECTRICAL BOX. YEAH, WE JUST CHANGED THE BOX TO BREAKERS SO NOW WE CAN CHANGE) BUT IF YOU LIVE IN INDIANA OR REALLY ANYONE IN ANY STATE I THINK CAN JOIN THE INDIANA HORSE COUNCIL, THEY NOW CARRY LIABILITY INSURANCE FOR ONLY $20 EXTRA. IT IS WITH LLOYDS OF LONDON. IF YOU DON'T HAVE INSURANCE YOU MIGHT WANT TO CHECK INTO IT. LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP IS $200 AND YOU PAY THE $20 A YEAR PER YEAR FOR INSURANCE. I THINK SINGLE MEMBERSHIP A YEAR IS $45 AND THAT INCLUDES THE INSURANCE. DON'T REMEMBER WHAT IT IS FOR SPOUSE ALSO. THEY HAVE A WEBSITE.

Lil Steppers: Was this your regular home owners or a horse insurance company? I would be interested in the information. I am located in Mississippi. My homeowners covers 7 horses on the basic policy (per my agent) It doesn't cover anything happening to them, just if they damage something. I tested it when my daughter's barrel horse kicked someones car. My homeowner's covered it. But I would be interested in a policy with increased liability if someone was hurt by one of my horses.

Well..we had to change our homeowners to a farm policy..the agent comes out ever so often and takes pictures for their folders..so now he decided we qualify as a farm policy..we are with Farm bureau!

The only thing to watch with Lloyds of London (or any ins co) is to check and see if the policy you purchased is underwritten by a co licensed in your state or if it is a surplus lines policy. Surplus lines policies GENERALLY do not fall under state jurisdiction so if you have problems getting losses paid your state insurance commissioners office cannot be of assistance. just a thought.....

We have insurance through the Nova Scotia Equestrian Federation. (NSEF) We are covered for up to five million, for $35. per year for a single membership. It only covers for "pleasure" use only...so if I decided to hire-out my horses, instead of volunteering, it wouldn't cover my horses.

Yes, I have it. Most fairs around here require you to have it to be on the grounds. I use OEF- Ontario Equine Federation. It is $30cdn a year for $5 mil. coverage...a great deal!

(If anyone is interested...go to their website.. www.horse.on.ca )

Our Home Owners policy did not cover us after we reached 6 horses; then had to go to a farm policy but with that came a lot more insurance too. Plus of course a higher premium but certainly worth it if you have people on your property. You never know what might happen when a stranger, even a friend or family, gets hurt somehow by a horse, so many people today are "sue happy."
