<BR>I had two unusual color combinations in my foals this year which I am still trying to understand. The first is a colt that was coffee colored at birth with High white stockings, bald face, and belly white that is apparently a splashed white overo pinto (all other pattern testing was negative i.e. LWO and sabino). Coloring wise he was tested as Homozygous for Cream AND Black!!!!! Making him what they call a smoky cream. So based on this when bred to a palomino the foal would be one of the following colors; buckskin, smoky black, smoky cream, or perlino; with or without splash white. When bred to a buckskin the foal would be one of the following colors; buckskin, perlino, smoky cream, smoky black. When bred to a bay you get either a smoky black or a buckskin.

The second is a colt that was tested and just came back as Homozygous for Bay AND Black. Bred to a palomino or a buckskin you are virtually assured of a buckskin or a bay. Bred to a cremello, a 100% buckskin.

These genetic tests are sure interesting. And the value of the knowledge for future breeding is amazing!
