I had a good year. I sold the 3 I really wanted to, and had One more that I would Like to sell, but as she is now bred to CCMF's Amazing color producer White Cloud, I may just hold out a bit on her!
Plus I really like many things about her, just wanted to cut down on my horses. ( My whole whopping herd of 7!)
I am really looking foward to next years foals, we have 4 coming!!!
We sold the minis we had for sale within a week of advertising them locally
Couldn't believe it - advertised them on the internet, not an inquiry. But when we put them in the paper they went really fast. The gelding especially.
Unfortunately our big horses aren't selling so well, oh well.
I rarely sell my babies. I put them up for sale as yearlings. We did VERY well this year, in that we took 4 yearlings to the Touch of Class show in Scottsdale Arizona and sold 3 of them the 2nd day and the 4th the third day of the show.
I could have sold more fillies if I had them. I felt horrible, there were people that had to talk to their spouse ( I should say, talk them into it) before buying. When they returned to find the one they were interested in sold, they were visibly upset. I saw at least two ladies leave in tears.
What I don't understand is the 2 mares I have for sale, just don't sell.
They are both bred. Both have had foals that sold for more than what I am asking for the mare.
Sometimes I think its because I'm not asking a fortune for them.
There's nothing wrong with them , I just need to downsize and pay some bills.
I did sell one 04 colt, a stallion and 2 bred mares. Didn't sell my 2 05 fillies though. Since they ended up being here so long, I've decided to keep the palomino filly. I'll try again in the spring to sell the silver buckskin filly. For the winter, she is the palomino's buddy. We're down to 12 horses now with one bred mare for sale.
We sold 20 horses this year (well, 19, with number 20 pending!). That's pretty good, but we worked hard at it. We also bought three (with two of them being sold again) and had 10 foals (3 of which have been sold).
Circle J Jazmine and Circle J Jazz Man went to Arizona.
I did well for me. Sold my Andalusian/TB gelding, Morgan gelding and Morgan broodmare (debating on selling my other Morgan mare and Morgan stud) and sold 2 of the 3 minis I really wanted to sell. I have a couple others "for sale" but they're the ones that you list just so you can say "yeah see I'm trying to sell something" but hope they really don't sell.
Someone kept trying to buy one I didn't want to sell too and I may cave in, but I'm undecided on that too.
Course, then again this year total I bought 11 minis so that doesn't even out so well!
We had one foal this year that we decided to keep (many people wanted to buy her but we didn't want ot let her go!) so we had no horses to sell but I did take deposits on our three in-utero foals. All three mares also have a reserve waiting list. I've had many people ready to send checks to reserve our 2007 foals but I'm not comfortable with working out that far. One stallion we had out on lease with no set end date assured me they want to keep him on the lease indefinately cause they fell in love with him
I'm hoping to trade my mare, Spring, that is out on lease to Kim at Crayonbox for one of her fillies next year- have to see.
No, I haven't had a good sales year this year. This has probably been the slowest year I have had in about 3 years. I have placed ads on the sales board and they usually sale pretty fast on there but I can't even get any emails at all on them this year. I have had a few people stop by the farm but they always want to buy some of the most expensive horses I have at extremely low pet prices. I did sell a couple of stallions this year but I have some mares and excellent bred fillies that I just can't even get emails about. Maybe 2006 will be a better sales year for me.
I had one colt this year and wanted to sell him and I did easily. He was a beauty out of a lovely mare that I bought from Marnie. Bred that same mare back to my gorgeous homozygous black pinto stallion(blue eyes) Misty is also homozygous pinto with blue eyes. I can't wait to see this baby!
I was flexible and willing to negotiate price this year and did one trade and did manage to sell 13. They were yearling and 2 year olds, and bred mares. Each went to excellent, loving, caring homes!
I would like to about 6 more before spring to get down to my ideal herd size.
