We will be breeding our stallion to four mares this spring. All are double registered. When do I do his stallion futurity registration, how about the girls? The year they breed or the year the foals are born?

We just purchased a stallion this year and have been told a different answer. This is the answer we got:

As far as breeding and futurity, you would nominate him and all the mares he breeds in a year by the following March 1st. So if you breed him to a mare in 2010, you would nominated them both by March 1st of 2011.

Can anyone clarify?

Here is the link I couldnt get it to copy, its stating the same year foals born in 09 , mare and stallion nominated in 09, then you must substain the foal every year following to remain eligble.

AMHR

AMHA, you must nominated by dec 31st the year before foaling, both stallions and mares. So breeding this year in 09 nominate by this coming dec 31st. Clearer then mud??

I was able to get it to copy from the link:

Nominations.

• Nomination forms must be completed & submitted by March 1st , Super “G” by Apr. 1st.

• Foals become eligible if the Sire & Dam were nominated in the Futurity year.

• Stallion Nominating Fee = $25.00.

• Mare Nominating Fee = $5.00 for AMHR; $10.00 for ASPC.

(The additional $5.00 for Shetland Mares will be distributed to the Area Futurities)

• A Stallion may breed outside Mares, yet the fee is only paid once.

So what I understand by this is that the stallion and mare would be bred in 2009. Then I would have to nominate the stallion and mare by March 1st 2010 in order for the foal to be futurity eligble when it is born in 2010. Correct?

You are right it is clear as mud :)

Not sure I understand how the R works.

I have a mare due in May, is it too late to nominate them for the 09 baby?

uwharrie ~ you will need to get the Futurity forms filled out and post marked by MARCH 1 2009 and the resulting foal will be eligible. The forms will also be in the Journal.
