I am wondering how much bigger Kelsey might get? She was born 5/1/2005 and is almost 8 months old. She weighs a lean 51 pounds as of yesterday, when she was spayed. She is a rough coated female collie.

My best guess based on the dogs I've had around her age and size would be that she'll probably only put on another 10-15 lbs when mature as long as she's active and not a couch potato type. I have seen some pretty chubby collies though. A friend has one that is a total porker and he must weigh close to 90 lbs at 7 years old but he's always been very laid back and not into expending much energy except when food is involved. He has a back you could balance a tray upon. I always tease her about using him to serve drinks at parties.

I think your girl will stay about the height she is now, maybe only grow a slight bit more. I think they are pretty much done height-wise between 8-12 months

Well collies are considered a big breed...so expecting her to continue growing and filling out until she is 18 months is not unreasonable. How tall is she now and how tall were her parents? That will be the best indicator of full size, also was she on the big end of size in the litter or small? My standard poodle is around 27 inches at the shoulder and has always been a lean mean running machine

now at 5 he is finally filling out I would guess he weighs in around 75-80 lbs possibly more.

It's ironic in a way -- I have not ever measured her yet I measure my horses, and fairly frequently when they are still growing!!! I don't know how tall her parents were, but they father was about 75 pounds and the mother was 65. She's a fun dog to have! She has had kind of a growth spurt maybe the last 2mos. It seems like not that long ago, she was shorter than Maggie and now she's quite a bit taller. She is very feminine looking.

Most dogs are measured by height not weight except some toys and some biggies. She should have the bulk of her height maybe an inch or two then she will fill in until about 18 mos.

Thanks! What you are saying is pretty much what I thought but didn't know for sure.

She seems BIG to me, but then we've had shih-tzu's for years and our other "big" dog is maybe 40 pounds

My only dog to compare is our standard poodle and I know for a fact he wasn't done height wise until he was a bit over a year. Collies (at least the ones I grew up with) were very big dogs quite tall. OK Jill get out your mini measuring stick and see how tall she is at the shoulder........I would guess our poodle put on another 1 and 1/2 inches from that age....and has finally put on the 20 lbs he needs to not look like anorexia boy now that he is 5ish and slowing down to mach 5 rather than mach 10

she is a very big girl yet weight wise she doesn't weigh much more than the poodle and the shepherd is getting downright tubby

.....I really need to find an old fashioned hay scale that I can stand the dogs on

I know our aussie is around 45lbs but he is a little dog compared to the others and the old geezer chow chow is about 40lbs...and getting more aged every day she gimps in the front and is kinda crippled behind anymore but she eats and still enjoys a daily walkabout on the farm.........and is always underfoot and tripping me...poor old girl.....

btw I love seeing pics of your dogs they always seem so happy.......I still want to be one of your dogs in my next life
