I just given up pop this week, I've been doing very well and I'm also cutting out any caffine. The only thing caffine related I will still eat is chocolate but I don't eat a HUGE amount of it anyways. My question is without the caffine how can I get my energy elsewhere? I'm very tired and been taking frequent naps, I'm still happy with my decision but don't like being tired. Any advice?

I think the problem you are experiencing now, may be due to your caffeine addiction. You are now experiencing the withdrawls of coming off of it. I find I get headaches when I don't get my caffeine too!

I've tried getting off pop in the past too, didn't make it because I've had MAJOR headaches, and I also had a complete turnaround on my diet, and I was so tired, that only lasted about a week.

Now I really haven't changed much of my diet, except no fast food, I'm seriously trying to cut off the fast food this time, and this time no headaches, but just tired.

Drink a lot of water!!!

You can also get these packets called Emergen-C, all health food stores have them as well as some walmarts, they come in a box of 32 packets I believe.

The tiredness will pass, I promise...........I gave up soda over 2 years ago. The only kind I drink now is an occasional diet sprite.

If you gave up regular soda (non-diet), the headaches are more likely because of sugar withdrawl along with the caffeine. When I gave up sugar in my diet I had headaches for more than a week.

Also for energy try drinking some green tea, it helps too, but it does have caffeine in it.

About a month ago I started taking a multi-vitamin supplement that is made by "one a day" but also has additional stuff in it for "mental clarity" and "all-day energy". I'm drinking a lot less caffeine and more water these days and for the last couple of weeks I've been feeling better and have more energy than I have in a long time. I also try to drink either gatoraide or poweraide or vitamin water too because I don't eat the best and want to try and make sure my body isn't shortchanged on what it really needs as far as water, vitamins and minerals.

Wanted to add it has extra vitamin B or B-12 which is one of the main things that helps with energy and stamina.

Jamie you need a Multi Vitaman! That is what i think really helped me! I have been of Soad since January 1! and off caffien for about 3 weeks It will get better!

I traded Coke for green tea...there is minimal caffiene in it, and I weaned slowly (I totally crash and become a useless MONSTER trying to cut cold turkey...lol...I know this from trying many times in the past). The green tea made it for a smooth transition for me, and I eventually dropped it and drink mostly water.

Oh, I also allowed myself a square of dark chocolate (just a square!)...that helped in the weaning process as well.

Best of luck to you! When I cut out sugar and caffiene I really noticed better brain function. I wasn't crashing in the afternoon either.

I was a diet soda "junkie" for about 6 1/2 years! After we moved to where we live now, I had a 1 hour one way commute to work. I used to get really sleepy in the morning on the drive in, so I started drinking more diet soda to occupy my time in the truck, and to keep me awake. Every time you stop somewhere, you grab a soda. Even after I quit my full time job to work from home, our fridge was always well stocked. I just cut way down about a month ago, allowing myself 1 a day. I completely cut myself off this week, and I feel so much better! I never realized how much the soda was actually dragging me down.

I've been drinking lots of water.........I think running to the bathroom every 5 minutes helps keep me awake :new_rofl: ! I'm really trying to focus on eating healthier now too, eating alot more veggies, and taking a multi vitamin. I really found that this change is helping me get more done during the day.

I don't know much about this, so I'm sure the others have given you great advice. I'm always tired too, but I think it has to do with my eating habits and (lack of) exercise.

However, I just wanted to give you encouragement and say you can do it!

I don't drink much pop at all (very rarely). I stopped drinking pop in hs probably when I was around 15 so thats been about 8 yrs now, and that was because my orthadontist (sp?) told me it was bad for my teeth and would stain them when I had braces on. I started drinking Sprite mostly and never looked back. I don't remember it being difficult at all. I can't stand diet drinks, but sprite says right on the can its caffine free and it tastes good to me so I drink it. I also really like gatorade and I try to drink plenty of water. When I get sick of sprite (can't always have the same thing) I find some other flavored drink in a can, like a lemonade or fruit punch or something. I recently really got into the green tea, I like the citrus the best, and maybe (after reading this post) its not the best for me but its gotta be better than coke! Very rarely do I feel the need to drink a dark pop, and so once in a blue moon (probably no more than once every 3 months if that) I'll have a Dr. Pepper or something. But that one usually does the trick, and I know not to drink that anymore for awhile because my skin will break out! So I think you'll find other benefits as well.

Anyway, sorry this is long, but good luck!
