This is my trick for getting to sleep:
Everytime I have a thought...it doesn't matter what kind of thought I imagine that thought being put inside a big treasure chest and locking it. I continue doing this to every thought I have and it doesn't take long at all for me to fall asleep.
I have to remember to imagine the key being put beside the chest though....before I used to imagine "throwing away the key" but then I would forget what I was thinking the night before....
Anyway, I also found a cup of milk with some honey in it and warming it up in the microwave has done wonders for my ability to fall alseep. Having a hot bath and relaxing just before going to sleep helps me out as well. Don't have a shower before you go to bed though, that always wakes me up more.
I went through a insomnia stage in my grade 12 year of high school. I think it was from stress of graduation and that sort of thing. During that year I was able to go two or even three days without sleeping...which is really really bad for you. But I didn't even feel tired! Doing relaxation exercises and a lot of deep breathing and remembering to actually have fun and loosen up very once in awhile really helped.
After learning not to worry so much I got out of the insomnia stage and now I have the opposite problem! I can't wake up! I have been known to go to bed a 9:00 PM and not wake up until 4 PM the next day! I only do this if I forget to set the alarm
I can't do this anymore though because I have two horses at home I need to feed now...
Wow, that was much more long winded than I think it needed to be.
