Okay

So I showed you guys Emily's tum-tum a few days ago. Well...I've been keeping a close watch. Tonight she's acting "different". She's eating and fine, but she's just somehow different -you get it I'm sure-. I checked her vulva and it may look relaxed; the problem is that she seems to always have a "relaxed vulva". She came here with a looong one LOL. Here's what's different tonight: she's waxing. So...I wrapped her tail and cleaned her up. She doesn't seem relaxed around the tail, though. Should I go to bed or wait up :bgrin?

Well this last one foaled no wax, my last one to foal last year waxed for 3 days. Not much help huh?

Well if you don't want a baby stay up and watch all night, if you do, go in the house for five minutes and Whalla! You have a baby! Good luck!

I honestly have NEVER had a Mini mare wax.

They have had colostrum, fine, but never waxed.

In fact I have only ever had one mare wax as per the book, and that was a Welsh Arab mare who was a very consistent foaler- I could set a watch by her!!

So Matt...did you sleep with her? I gotta warn you these minis are magical. I swear if there's a mare shy of birthing with a human around, they'll hold tight no matter what, til you run out for a pee, or just gotta have a snack, or even, God forbid, a quick shower. Guaranteed she'd drop and pop then and be standing with a smirk when you return. You could get a cam and set it up so you can watch from the house...or you can roll yourself in a dirty horse balnket with some poop aftershave and "maybe" she won't realize you're nearby...mayyyyyybe.

Nope, no baby. I hope I wasn't imagining wax. Geez, I'm gonna feel silly if she pops March 1st like some of you predicted  .

Sometimes they get a discharge that comes out of the teats not really wax though.Like almost losing the tiny amount of dirt/gunk that plugs it?

I have had a few wax up here is a picture for those that have not seen a mare wax before

This was a maiden mare she foaled about 12 hours later.I think she would have gone sooner but we had a guy here fixing the foaling stall cameras and she couldnt get into her stall she sort of hung around waiting for him to leave.

Dont worry Matt the plus side is she cant hold onto it forever

Even though my friend's mare is a QH, she waxed up Saturday morning, and her and I walked out the barn, and her water broke in a small pasture that she was in. She had only been waxed for over an hour. So she foaled a solid Buckskin colt with no white at 11:06 sat morning 2-10-07

No doubt she will foal when you least expect it, anyway good luck with the foaling.

Mat, get yourself a baby moniter from wal-mart if you dont have one. Someone probably already mentioned it. Very inexpensive, but priceless for these mares. It sure makes life 100% easier!

Thanks! Will do!

Yep Matt it will also come in handly for when you are sleeping in the barn, and your partner.....who already thinks you lost your mind by this point, is sleeping in the house. Just yell really really loud in it and he should come running.

They know I've lost my mind at foaling season! Trust me, the moniters are really sensitive to sound, ask my family, their already dreading the sound of horses chewing all night. My first mare is due March 17 th and all bagged up too. Moniter is on, Foaling kit ready, ready, set, crazy mom!!!!!! :new_shocked:
