Had our first baby of the year last night. Had four mares in the barn, just two mares on breeder alert when the pager went off...booked out to the barn with my eyes half shut slipping around in the mud, temp 30 degrees and drizzling, to find the two mares with buzzers standing staring at me like "what is your problem! Let us sleep!" Opened my eyes the rest of the way and just glanced into the two stalls with mares due in early May...wait a minute....buzzer went off, there is no buzzer on these girls but there is Danny down having her bay!!! What did she do, tell one of the other mares to turn her head sideways until the alert went off to get me out of bed?!

Anyway the delivery was textbook other then she was due the 4th of May and though early (which usually means girl) she presented me with a beautiful bay boy! He was up in no time and though Danny had zero bag at 10:30 a quick check got me a handful of milk at 12:30!

Here he is, first foal for 2009!

He is a cutie.. Thank goodness the other mares were watching out and helping...

It sure does sound as if your mares were in cahoots with each other!
