My grandpa is not doing so well.

This is the e-mail I got Yesterday:

I had to put him in the hospital this morning. His pain from the lower back made it impossible for him to get out of bed. He has been suffering from this latest bout with his arthritis damaged spine has been causing severe pain for about 5 days now. Today it reached his limit of tolerance. Today he went into the ER.

They ran blood tests chest X-ray and CT scan of his back. Dr. said there was nothing they can do and released him form the ER.

He could not stand, or even sit in a chair, yet they released him. I said I could not take him home in this condition. I had no means of getting him to or from the car.

The ER Dr. tried the Kaiser Liaison and got permission to keep him over night. We waited 4 hours to get a room. It was messy as he had a couple bouts with urine and Bowels which required them to put him back in an ER room, getting him out of the hallway, and caring for him.

I had a long talk with the Nurse he has for the night and gave her all the background and pertinent information. She was very greatfull and amazed at the detail ( I was happy she would listen ).

Tomorrow, Wednesday I will talk with the doctor and the Kaiser Liaison to see what we can do. Probably have to find a nursing facility that can care for him till....

Love You

Dad

I'm sorry to hear that your grandpa is in so much pain. It's awful to be incapacitated like that. Who knows whether this will be his last Christmas......I don't know what other health issues he has but people don't die from back pain(they just sometimes wish they would). Sometimes if they get moved into an assisted living or full care home they do better.....and some just give up. I wish the best for your grandpa and I hope this is just a flare-up of pain that will improve with time. Good luck.

I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather. Grandparents are such special people and we hate to see them hurting after they have brought us so much joy growing up through the years. Thoughts and prayers are heading your way. ((((((((HUGS)))))))) Shannon

He has other issues besides back pain. He can't eat, stand, sleep or see. He has serious breathing problems and a bad heart. So, the pain could just push him over the edge.

I am so SORRY! And I can't BELIEVE the hospital would release him like that!

Sounds like someone needs to stomp and scream and be the "squeekie wheel"!!! No, they may not be able to "cure" him, but they must have a suggestion on how to make him more comfortable........perhaps ReHab or Hospice?

Sending you Prayers and White Light that your grandpa will be treated right -- one way or another.

Aw, I am so sorry. As they say, old age is not for wussies, and your poor grandpa is really going through it, now. It seems so sad that we all have to suffer the infirmities and indignities we do as we get older, and then to be disrespected on top of it all is to add insult to injury.

I hope your family can find a good solution that helps him feel comfortable and well-cared for as well as respected.

Good luck with this, you are all in my thoughts.

Well, this AM they put my grandpa in a convalescent hospital. He is having breathing and eating problems. He can't eat. He has not eaten for 4 days now. The pain is too bad. They put him on morphine but that makes you not want to eat also. He is 6'2" and 130 pounds. His time on this plane of existence is almost up. I hope the next one is kinder to him.

This is exactly how my grandmother declined before her death, thankfully the morphine and the constant kind care made her last few weeks more comfortable, in the next plane he will be young and healthy and happy again. I'm so sorry for your sadness.

MY HEART GOES OUT TO YOU, I LOST MY GRANDMOTHER IN JULY. SHE HAD SUFFERED MANY YEARS AND WE SAID THE SAME THING...WE WANTED HER TO NOT HURT AND SUFFER ANYMORE, WE HAD TO BELIEVE THE NEXT PLACE WAS BETTER, IT STILL WAS VERY HARD ON EVERYONE  . YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ARE IN MY THOUGHTS, NIKKI

Shelly so sorry to hear of your grandfathers situation but take heart you have had him longer than many. Just pray for his remaining time to be pain free. Am glad they were able to find a place that he could go to be cared for. (((((HUGS)))))
