I am so sorry to be writing this but today Dimitri passed over. Sometimes meds and determination just arent enough but darn it we sure tried. He was a great fighter. He was a very special guinea pig.

Several years ago, I got a fabulous guinea pig named Simon. Simon was a long haired guinea pig called a silkie. He was a dilute too. Red eyes. Before I was on this forum I was on a guinea pig forum actually. Simon was super sweet but reserved. You could do anything with him. He was very laid back. I have MANY pictures of Simon. He was a great model.

Eventually I wanted to breed Simon in hopes of getting my most favorite breed of all the Peruvian. There isnt much difference between the breeds and sometimes they are even interbred for the quality of the coats. Silkies hair grows all to the back. Peruvians hair has collics so they have crazy bangs and look like little mops. I got a really cute little Peruvian female (Mckenna) and crossed her to Simon. I got three babies from that mix. 2 tri colored silkies (Ty and Piper) and one gold agouti Peruvian.

Out of all of my babies, it was Dimitri that was most like his father. He was EXACTLY what I had hoped for. Same great personality. Fabulous coat and looks. His expression cracked me up. His eyes were huge and round and always looked like they were going to swallow you. Many guinea pigs can get this crazy wild eyed expression that I just love. It doesnt mean they are crazy but its funny. Dimitri was like a rag doll to hold and cuddle. He too took great pictures. I tried very hard to breed him too. He was so laid back and so passive though he quickly got discouraged. The girls would lay into him and he would flatten out in the corner, defeated

Poor guy was completely hen pecked. I hope you guys can enjoy the pictures and get a feel for just how special these little ones are to me.

McKenna is on the left (her newborn babies used to love to climb up on her back (all in a line) and look out through the cage bars. I wish I had that pic on photobucket...

There are many more pictures both on Photobucket and in my albums but I already have so many on this post I worry that if I put any more up it wont work. I still have his siblings Ty and Piper as well as McKenna and they too are very special. They will always have a place with me and be loved. Guinea pigs are a blessing...

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your guinea pig, they have such great personalities.

He was a beautiful color.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. He sure was cute. I can't get over the hair. So adorable.

Even the little pets really endear themselves to you. They were one of a kind.

I am sorry you lost your little guy.

I used to have guinea pigs and love them!!! I would have them now if they didn't take so much to keep from being stinky. Between the cat box and horse stalls that is enough cleaning! Their whistling is SO fun! Don't crinkle candy wrappers or you hear some serious begging!

awww...those are great pics....

I lost my 'Penny pig' back in early December.....she used to love to 'play' with the puppies, and they loved to play with her!! Her cage was on the floor and she'd always catch the dogs curiosity, and soon the dogs would have their front feet on the cage and she'd be running around egging them on!!!!

I do miss her....her & my 'Oliver the elephant' chinchilla....he was such a cool chin....don't know if I'll ever find one to replace him

It doesn't matter how small they are, they still hold special places in our hearts

I'm sorry you lost your special friend. My kids had a 'penny' pig (that was how they said Guinea) when they were little he was so much fun.

I am so sorry for your loss, he looked like an amazing pigger!

I know what you mean about these amazing little critters, I have been blessed with them for 6 years, starting with Pumpkin my little soul mate, who passed away september 11, 2008. I now have 2 females and a fixed male.

All of your pigs are beautiful!!

I am so sorry! He was the cutest little boy, and I know Guinea pigs have such neat personalities. I'm so sorry.

I love guineas. I am so sorry you lost your boy. You have lovely pigs and they look so happy. I love your names for them also. Sorry again for your loss.

Thank you all. He was a great pig. They do beg and often. If I go in to my room chewing on a carrot, they know... the wheeks and squeaks that come out of that room....

The cages can be a challenge. I clean just about every day. I love the smell of the clean bedding and the pigs love it too. They flatten right out in it. I have many more pigs and I may start a new thread to look at guinea pigs. I love them too much.

I'm so sorry you lost him

We had some for a short while when I was a kid. I enjoyed them but my mom didn't.
