If Scarlet nroke my arm to get out of work, her wish has come true...

This coming Tuesday I'll undergo surgery to put the two broken bones in my left arm back together. After they sew it up, they'll put two pins in through the skin to hold everything in place (this way they can just pull them out without cutting me open again).

I was hoping for just local anesthetic so I could watch, but the surgeon (who, by the wat, is quite scenic...) will use general -- probably to keep me quiet. I'll be in a cast up beyond my elbow for at least four weeks, then a shorter cast for another four to eight weeks.

The surgeon wants me to take no risks with the horses (for good or bad, he seemed fairly knowledgeable about working with animals). I'll be limited to one-armed tasks, such as feeding, brushiing, giving treats, cuddling, and ordering Keith around (he already drives well, but tomorrow he learns how to harness). With any luck, I'll be back to driving for our July beach drive.

I'm already getting pretty good using mt right arm. Today I dug channels along the fence to drain standing water, and while I was slow, at least I'm good for something! I'm getting faster and a bit more accurate at one-handed typing, and I mouse right-handed (for the most part, I'm left-handed), but I cannot yet sign my name recognizably, so I won't be spending any money...

I will keep you in my thoughts Susanne!! I know every thing will come out well. ((Hugs))

So sorry!! Sending you good thoughts!

Sorry to read about your arm! My 63 year old mom just went through the same thing, but with an ankle. She fell on the ice in February and dislocated her ankle, broke her leg in 3 places and tore all the tendons. She had surgery and just had her "temporary screw" removed on Wednesday. Unlike you, she wanted to be KNOCKED OUT for that.

She was, which was best for all of us!

Hang in there and do what the doctor says!

Oh no Susanne! I sure hope you're surgery goes well...good luck with that and make sure you follow doctor's orders to ensure proper healing!

Boy Susanne talk about wrong place at the wrong time. Hopefully you will heal quickly so you can get some driving in this year. I'm sure Keith will do great at harnessing and keep Mingus in shape for when you can get back in the cart.

You can brush the horses, wow you can stop by here. We have hair just falling out right now. Of course that is just great for me and my allergy trying to keep up with it. Brush one day can't breathe the next.

What are we going to do with you?! Mom sends her sympathy and best wishes, she's still going to be in that boot for another 4-6 weeks so she's so frustrated she could spit. I feel for both of you. If you want to bring Mingus to any of the shows, I'll drive him for you!

Poor you. What did Scarlett do to you? In other words how did it happen or shouldn't I ask?

Hope all goes well.

Thanks everyone, and thanks, Leia -- I might take you up on that! I was just out brushing huge gobs of hair off the kids, and Mingus was preening and posing.

I realized that one grooming task I cannot manage is working out the complez fairy knots Flash gets in no time. Perhaps i can trade with Marie -- general grooming for mabe detangling -- I think I'd get the better deal!

Helicopter -- she reared while having her hooves trimmed, and to quote Ronald Reagan, "I forgot to duck." She came down on my arm with either her foreleg or hoof -- it's a bit of a blur.

Oh what a pain- really. Wishing you the best of luck and sorry you have to go through all this!!

Wishing you a speedy and uneventful recovery! So sorry about this - I feel your pain as it reminds me of surgery I had in 1975 for a broken finger. Horse related of course. I was able to have the surgery with local (axillary block) but had to go back into surgery to have pin removed 6 weeks later. I was NOT a good patient....kept riding the horse but had to have help saddling her.
