If Scarlet nroke my arm to get out of work, her wish has come true...
This coming Tuesday I'll undergo surgery to put the two broken bones in my left arm back together. After they sew it up, they'll put two pins in through the skin to hold everything in place (this way they can just pull them out without cutting me open again).
I was hoping for just local anesthetic so I could watch, but the surgeon (who, by the wat, is quite scenic...) will use general -- probably to keep me quiet. I'll be in a cast up beyond my elbow for at least four weeks, then a shorter cast for another four to eight weeks.
The surgeon wants me to take no risks with the horses (for good or bad, he seemed fairly knowledgeable about working with animals). I'll be limited to one-armed tasks, such as feeding, brushiing, giving treats, cuddling, and ordering Keith around (he already drives well, but tomorrow he learns how to harness). With any luck, I'll be back to driving for our July beach drive.
I'm already getting pretty good using mt right arm. Today I dug channels along the fence to drain standing water, and while I was slow, at least I'm good for something! I'm getting faster and a bit more accurate at one-handed typing, and I mouse right-handed (for the most part, I'm left-handed), but I cannot yet sign my name recognizably, so I won't be spending any money...
