Well folks I am very proud of myself, I have been working with a farrier, learning how to shoe, and I shod my first. Put front shoes on my classic stud, and boy am I impressed with myself. Took me a while but I did it. Bob (the farrier) was quite impressed also. Says I will be the only person around that would want to shoe ponies.

Hee hee hee Rob... I am very impressed! I've watched farriers shoe everything from shetlands to drafts and I have to say that the ponies look the hardest. Those little tiny nails look tricky!

I took a clinic to learn to pull draft horse shoes and reset them... the big boys take sheer strength (I can pull my pony's loose shoe off barehanded but to pull a draft horse shoe off really makes me sweat!) but the ponies look like they take way more finesse!

I have NO desire to be a farrier. It's a price I'm very happy to pay.

Thumbs up to you Rob!

Andrea

Nope, sorry but I shoe them too. They sure are fun though aren't they. Classics are easy wait till you try a modern. Linda B

All my driving ponies are shod, the roadwork they do demands it.

We have no farrier in the Islands, so I had to go and learn to do it myself.

Yeah has been in the cart already, but he is LAZY, so we will see how it breaks out for him. He never acts up or anything, just lazy.

Way to go Rob!! :aktion033: My Dad has been a farrier my whole life (39 years) and stupidly I have never learned to do anything much beyond pull a sprung shoe and when I worked in the standardbred industry I could tack a shoe back on in an emergency. I have decided this winter to have my Dad teach me to trim my minis though so I can do my own, I don't know about shoeing ponies though, wow!! Good for you!

That's awesome Rob! I trim all my horses feet, and Christy's horses and a couple of other peoples horses (all minis) but I don't think I would EVER want to put a shoe on!! It's awesome that you were willing to learn that trick!!
