You all would be much more level headed with your money then i would be lol :DOH!.

Actually, now that i go back and think about it ...the very first thing i would do is forward all the money to my bank account and go internet shopping for a few good hours at Ozark and Star Lake

.

I am not good with money lol

Well it would not have anything to do with horses

I would pay Sylvia Browne the $750 I need to get her to do a reading so I can talk to Michael and pay anyone else whatever it would take to do that too.

I would honestly enjoy investing it. But, then that's what I do for people (invest their money).

As to a purchase outside of investments, I would purchase a "big" farm where H and I could have our house, my parents could have a house, and my little sister and her family could also have their house.

First I would pay off my debt and my husbands debt. Then would send Belinda money, then would hire a live in caretaker for my grammy. Then I would buy my husband a truck, a duramax and a brand new horse trailer. Then I would build my dream barn, fix up our house. Anyway there is more but I have to go to work which if I won millions I would quit my job. LOL
default_wink.png

I would buy this GORGEOUS horse I work with since he is for sale. Then I would give 20k to the lady whose house I board atThe spiling time

A store/coffee house, then a vaction home in Georgetown, Colorado

If your talking lots of millions I would pay off all our debts that we have first, than pay this property off, than give some to my family to help them out, a new truck and horse trailer that we would have to have when we build a new place down south where the winter stays warm, this Wisc. winters suck, (at my age can't handle the cold), like to have about 5 hundred acres and build a big log cabin in a woods and have plenty of pasture for all the horses I would have to buy, and have a very large pasture for Rescue horses( that I would dearly like to do .) I guess a girl can dream.

The first thing I'd buy is the wise counsel of a sharp investment person like Jill so I wouldn't just blow through it all and set up my finances so I could continue to do the things I already love to do for a long time to come. Then I'd take care of my family and animals needs and then onto helping the those in community in which I live.

I'm sure my dream house and barn would be in there somewhere.
default_yes.gif
I'm debt free other than my mortgage but I'd love to work for myself and not have to worry if I was in the black or not. I love my job but I would resign so someone else could move up and have the opportunities I currently have. I love naps with my pets so that would be great to be able to take a mid day siesta instead of working non stop from four in the morning to 10 or 11 at night and collapsing into bed with exhaustion.
default_rolleyes.gif

I know EXACTLY what I would do if I won the lottery, I have thought of this many times
default_biggrin.png

I would purchase the two properties adjacent to ours and I would put up an equine facility with indoor arena, huge barn, individual living quarters, a recreation centre, etc. etc. etc. The "living quarters (individual "cottage" type structures) would be for families with children with cancer so that they could spend whatever time they wanted at the Centre. I would purchase equines and offer free services for children with cancer, disabled and autistic children and adults. I would hire reponsible teenagers and other individuals to help with the Centre. I would also build a "no kill" shelter for cats and dogs, etc. I am a strong advocate of therapy with animals. Animals give so much to us humans and there is nothing like the face of a child or adult when they interact with animals that give their love so freely to us humans.

This has been my dream for many many years.

All I can say is I want to be in some of YOUR families!!
default_new_shocked.gif
Wow. This is a generous group of people.

The absolute first thing I'd do is pay off my debt. I don't have much but I bought a new used car that's going to keep me in hock for awhile and I'd like to get out from under that ASAP. The very next thing I'd do is get some good financial advice and invest a large chunk of my winnings somewhere I can't touch it for a long time.
default_laugh.png
I'm young, I need to make sure my winnings last until my retirement! The next monthly installment (remember they usually don't give you this stuff all in one lump sum) would go in a savings account. After that I would probably have a brief fit of indulgence by buying a new show cart and show harness, a show halter, some nice show clothes- all those sort of things I've been putting off when $200 is a lot of money. I don't think the total investment including cart and harness would be over $2.500. I'd probably buy a small GPS, a new digital camera, some simple things like that (okay, maybe a 52" Plasma TV!
default_drool5.gif
) and then I think I'd sit on the money again. I'm happy where I live now so don't want to move out and buy a house yet, and it would disturb our horses too much to build a new barn as it would have to be on the site of the old one. Maybe I'd cover and light our arena so I could drive all year around! That would count as a contribution to my parents since it would up their property value.
default_wink.png

I'm not close to my extended family and my grandma, elderly aunts, and my parents have all been very careful with their money and are well-set for their retirements. I'd probably give some spectacular Christmas gifts the first year and then my parents would get as large a financial gift as was allowed within tax limits each year until I'd paid back my college expenses. Come to think of it I think I'd help put my cousins through college too- their parents work hard but putting three bright kids through college is expensive. Then I think I'd go back to sitting on my nest egg.

I wouldn't quit my job as if I did I'd get bored quickly, but I might drop down to three days a week and I wouldn't sweat it when I had to take unpaid vacation. Most of my money would be saved for trips I normally could not afford like going to Nationals and taking Kody back East to compete at CDE's there just to see what it's like. I might travel to Ireland and Scotland and Australia and take my parents on my dime. I guess I don't want things so much as experiences. I want to go places, meet people, build memories. I'll buy the things I need to do that (camera, vehicle, GPS) but not much beyond that. I'd save for a house with property someday when I have someone to share it with and make a large contribution to St. Jude's Hospital and my local no-kill animal shelter.

It would be so nice not to have to sweat the small stuff!

That would be enough joy for me.

Reading this topic has been like eating out--I look at what everyone else is having and think, "Yeah, that sounds good. I'll have some of that too."
default_biggrin.png
That said, considering what I would buy has made me realize I already have a pretty good life.

Assuming I won the big one, I'd put the majority in a CD or something of the sort. I would pay off what few debts I have, and those of my family. I'd finish renovating my new fixer-upper and give it to my brother. I'd pay my big sister's college debts. My mom seems pretty happy with her life, but I'm sure we could think of something. My dad is moving to AR, and I know he's going to miss the timber, so I'd buy him some land out there and send him a herd of white tails. Mo would get the first three cars off the top of his dream list. I love my job, but it's not a career, so I'd finish school through my doctorate (without worrying about student loans--YAY), but would also open an antique store with my grandmother, and we could travel the country looking for novelties.

As far as the horses go, I know a lot of people think of going bigger, but our farm used to be a huge cattle operation, and has always been more than we need and generally just a headache to keep up. I'd buy a tidy little horse property for myself with a heated indoor arena, runs for everyone, and heated stalls for our two retired, arthritic girls. And I would have a seperate quarantine barn, so I could finally volunteer as a foster home for CMHR. I would do my best to hunt down some of the homebreds I've lost track of and bring them home, because I hate not knowing how they are. I would send all of our young homebreds out to professionals to be properly campaigned, and I would buy a few select, stellar horses to take us to the next level.

Gosh, now that I've gotten started I could go on and on! There are so many organizations I would want to donate to, and so many kids I worked with while in AmeriCorps that I would love to send to college. That done, I think I'd be pretty content. Ha!

It's such a great thing to see how so many people are willing to take care of loved ones first and are not selfish at all!! Very very cool!
default_aktion033.gif

Well, this isn't the first thing I'd buy, but the first thing I'd do:

The first thing I would do is payoff my parents and my husbands parents debts so they could live the rest of their lives worry free.

For me: (after I pay off debts and tell my boss to go shove it)..buy a houseboat on Lake Cumberland, KY.

Wow. This is a generous group of people.

...

Awww Leia I would be proud to call someone like you family.
default_wub.png
Hey girly, you must come down and see my new little farm. We move the horses today. I'm so stressed but it will be over soon. I would call you but I can't don't have your number since my old cell croaked. PM me with it please.

Of course I'd have to PLAY the lottery FIRST!
default_biggrin.png
But then, WHEN I won I'd ---

--Pay off any debt.

--Have a new well dug on our property with frost-free hydrants placed throughout.

--Buy new vehicles -- a new truck for Larry and a new minivan for me.

--Buy new trailers -- one would be a "toy-hauler" with the living quarters.

--Redesign all of our cross fencing.

--Go on a vacation with the family and hire a farm sitter.

--Put money away in Brianna's college fund.

oh we talk about this all the time... of course depending on what a BIG jackpot would be... let's say, 30 million
default_biggrin.png

first thing pay off all bills. and fill the hay barn and pellet dispenser, and fill the bank account so next time they are empty i don't have to worry where the money is coming from...

find a minimum 1 square mile somewhere the weather is mild, and hubby isn't allergic to what grows there, and build our dream house RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE and barn and good fencing all around. no neighbors WOO HOO and enough money put aside to pay for training and have "barn helpers" to help with the work... then off to buy one horse and donkey of each color i don't have yet
default_wink.png
and a nice new truck and trailer of course! it would also be fun to have a custom van done up to haul my little ones to visits at the old folks' homes... with of course a custom paint job of the little ones running around all over the van
default_wink.png

a brand new state-of-the-art computer with it's very own computer fixer guy so that nothing ever goes wrong!

and a trip to Australia, always wanted to go there... along with a nice cruise in the Caribbean

that's for me.

also to build a big workshop for hubby so he could tinker with whatever he wants to tinker with, antique tractors, guns, antique motors... and get him a plane and flying lessons, which is a dream of his... and because it's what he would want, my new truck (see above) would be one of those big things somewhere between a "regular" truck and a semi, i forget what they are called LOL but he points them out to me whenever we see them on the road.

a good chunk of money for each of the kids, and a chunk stashed away to help out any future grandkids.

for the family, pay off debts for siblings and parents so they could get a new start even though we don't really spend any time with any of them any more because none of them like us :DOH! we are too honest, and won't put up with their hypocrisy... but would still help them out.

then i would like to do three charitable things... i would like to set up a program where senior citizens on a tight budget could have a dog or cat, and the program would cover all costs and have employees visit regularly to monitor health and grooming so the old folks could just have a companion to love and no worries...

would like to set up a program for free or low-cost spay and neutering, as well as euthanasia - i know a lot of animals that for their own sake should be released from pain but their owners can't afford the high cost of taking care if that, so they just keep feeding them until they die on their own.
default_no.gif

and i would set up a program for kids who, like me when i was young, want a horse and can't have one, where the program would provide the horse, lessons, training, feed, fencing, board, vet care, whatever it takes to make it happen for them, so that more kids would grow up with animals, learning how to relate to them and care for them, instead of sitting in front of the TV all day or playing video games
default_wacko.png

and of course all three of these programs would provide jobs as well, because someone has to provide the monitoring and the care and the training etc...

geez i think i might need more than 30 million LOL

Oh my, if I won big bucks......

Pay off bills

Pretty poopy last 6 months, so I would send kids to boarding school

Build a new barn with running water and stalls

car

truck

horse trailer

donkey trailer

carts for donkeys

quit jobs, hubby and I

kitchens cupboards

floors

patio door and patio

replace apple tree that blew down last weekend

riding ring

indoor pool

green house

I could go on......

Well I've thought about this on many occasions. The very first thing I would do if I won the lottery is donate a large sum of money to St. Jude Hospital for children.

After that I'm just not sure...........probably all the normal things........

huge farm

more horses

hired help

buy the kids their own homes

help my family and friends

give Marty 750.00 to hire Sylvia Brown

help more horses in Kansas,

probably many random acts of kindness, because that is really who I am - I would rather help others than do for myself.

Offer Stacy all of it for Prince?
