Me too. I'm a sucker for a great cover. I love how the art work has changed for covers over the years and I'll definitely pick up a book if I like the art. Might not read it after reading the description but sometimes just looking at the great artwork is fun.

I used to go to the library and pick the biggest, plainest books and read them to try to find some diamonds in the rough. They were some of my very favorite books-usually Classics. Never one that I didn't like.

Yes, a good cover does grab me. First impressions ya know. That was a great article and I totally agree with it. I'm not sure what that woman putting on makeup and a fancy font have to do with "The Bell Jar". It seems to make light of a rather serious book. But that's what marketing and PR people are mostly pushing these days. It's sad, but true.

OH, I do, too!!!

The cover art is a factor when I am picking a book to read

If I don't like the cover, then I usually don't even pick it up to see what the story is about.

I'm sure glad that I'm not the only person who puts a lot of importance on a book cover! I even tend to get upset when I see a book cover that I love, I read the book's description, and it's something I have no interest in reading. Lol

I think the author of that article had a feminist ax to grind and used the topic of book covers and teen age girls. It actually makes me sad to think of a teen girl picking up that book, thinking she's going to read about an ordinary girl and finding out it's not. Why not show a female figure with her head in the oven on the cover? How would that affect sales?

I don't think I am overly impressed by a book cover illustration. I've learned they have very little to do with the content. Most of the used books I buy no longer have a dj, so the title will have to intrigue me. Or the spine. Since I've been working with the newsletter I'm enthralled by fonts!

Speaking of font, I recently bought a book that was printed in red ink. I was mad when the book arrived because I thought it would take more effort to read. But surprisingly, it didn't.

The saying, "Never judge a book by its cover", is true, I promise

I'd love to see a photo of the pages. Was it a murder mystery?

No, it was a book about werewolves. It is the third book in Maggie Stiefvater's Wolves of Mercy Falls series. The first book had a blue cover and black print inside. The second book has a green cover but I have no idea what color the print is because my copy is a copy from overseas (which has a black cover and black print). I'm curious if it has green ink?

I thought I was the only one, ha! I love a great cover, sort of like back in the day when we had all that great record album art (so, yes, that ages me a bit... ha).

I used to love the old Walter Farley books, the pictures/artwork of Flame, the Island Stallion, especially (Flame was my fave horse). Or, Marguerite Henry's books and the beautiful artwork on those. I bought my Lord of the Rings books back in 1972, they had some amazing artwork on them that JRR Tolkien had done himself. I love a great artsy book cover!

Remali, you brought back some great memories!

Sara, Werewoves, makes sense. I wonder if the other copy does have green print? Really an unusual idea.

Funny, funny, funny that you should ask! Whenever I go into Walmart I always end up in the book aisle. Never fails that I pick up a couple of romance paperback novels, that I know I won't like simple becaus of the artwork on the cover. Seems I can't resist a half naked cowboy, or an indian brave, even though I will pick them up, look at the cover and read the intro, I never buy them. They are not my choice of books to read, but oh boy are the covers inticing.

LOL! It's nice to look, even if you don't read. ;) I gotta tell you, I'm glad that they no longer use Fabio. I hear he's the sweetest guy, but soo not attractive in my opinion.

I was wrong! I just checked book 1 with the blue cover. It does have blue print inside, not black like I thought. So now I'm positive book 2 has green. The blue was darker, so without paying close attention, I didnt even notice it wasn't black.
