I lost my friend yesterday to what the doctor believes was colic. I have had Rositta for about a year, as she was our first. I did not actually know how special she was until yesterday if that makes any sense. I always knew she was special but not to hear her talk to me during feeding time last night and have her stall empty this morning was just eye opening. She left us a wonderful present though. "Isabelle". She is a very special colt just over 1 month old. We will never forget you and thank you "Rosie" for your gift to us.

I'm so sorry for your loss......... Losing a mare is one of the most gut-wrenching things we horse owners have to deal with.

We lost a longtime member of our horsey family two years ago and also had to bring up her child. Those round the clock feedings were what kept us going as we were grieving.

I am sorry that you lost your beloved Rositta. Most of us here can share your sorrow as we too have been there......................... How is the colt doing? Need to watch those foals especially if under stress & without mamma's milk.

Awww, my heart goes out to you. I am so sorry for your loss, and hope you will be able to find some comfort in times spent with her new son.

I am so sorry for you loss of your friend. I know its so heart breaking to loose them.

Please do watch over her filly Isabella. If she is just a month old, how are your feeding

her? She still needs some type of milk, can be one of the milk replacements like foal

lac. She should also already be eating, so make sure keeps eating. Is there a buddy

you can put with her?

I am sorry about your loss.

Vicky

I'm so sorry for your loss.. We went through this last year with out mare Fantom, she was my sister's first broodmare and left behind a week old filly Misty.. Raising an orphan can be tough at times but believe me, when you look out in the pasture and see that baby you raised frolicking and playing happy and healthy it is soooo worth it.. May your girl live on in your hearts and the baby she left behind.. If you ever need someone to talk to or have questions feel free to shoot me a PM or email and I'll help the best I can.. Best of luck to you and your family!

So sad to read and I'm very sorry for you.

I'm so sorry you lost your mare. I've never raised an orphan but there are plenty of people who have that can give you advice. Good luck with her.

I am sorry for your loss as well. Hope the little one makes it as well.

Hugs

My heart breaks for you. I know the look of the empty stall and those nickers we'll never hear again. Hug that baby.

Thank you all for the thoughts and prayers. This is a very new experience for our family. One we hope we never go through this again. I am so thankful for Isabelle. She is doing good, of course she misses her mother. I am actually going to take her to an associate who will be able to care for her for the next couple of weeks. She is experienced in foals who are without thier mothers. My wife and I both work during the day so there will be a couple of hours we won't be at home. This will work out for Isabelle and us as well. She is eating grain very well. The vet checked her out yesterday and said she is doing great and is healthy. I am just ready for her to come back home. We have two other colts at home that will need the extra attention. It was like 3's company around the house! Before Isabelle comes home, I am going to re-arrange my fences. Sorry for the long post, just needing to get it out. Again thank you, each of you are wonderful.

Sorry for your loss...it's heartbreaking to say the least and have gone through that 3 years ago when little Fossil lost her mom at a month old. But they can thrive and do very well so hoping for the best for lsabelle.
