I decided to take in a 4 month old kitten because someone was going to dump her in a random neighborhood to get rid of her (speaking of, what's wrong with people these days?!) The problem is I already have a 6 month old cat. The kitten doesn't care at all about my cat, buttttt my cat is not as acceptant

She follows the kitten around and spies on her, but starts hissing at her when she gets too close for comfort. I make sure to pay more attention to my cat so she doesn't feel jealous or replaced.

Should I just let them be and let them get used to eachother or what is the best way to do it?

I would hate to have to take the kitten to the pound, but won't have much of a choice if my cat won't tolerate her.

[SIZE=12pt]not sure how long it's been but both of them being young I would think given some time they will get use to each other. I had a cat who seem to hate a litter of kittens we had here, if they came close he would give them a good firm bat to the head, it took a few months but now they groom each other and sleep together. good luck with your new addition, and it was very kind of you to take it in

It has been my experience when I have introduced cats to eachother (I have just let them be) that they "may" get used to eachother, or they "may not".

Unfortunately I have had a few cats that just Never do seem to love eacother but rather tolerate eachother. I have introduced cats of different sexes and of different ages.

Since they're both so close in age.........I'd let them be and they'll sort it out, I'm sure....

The fact your cat is following the new one around, is a good sign. It may take a while, but I bet it wont be long....especially since they are so young. Good luck,
