I still have two mares that I'm waiting to come back into heat and watching, watching........I haven't seen them come back in now since the first week of April and I didn't want a March baby due to the cold weather, so here I wait.

Seems like everyone except the ones I want bred are in heat around here!

Anyone else still breeding?

Marty we dont breed until at least mid June it is too cold in my opinion until mid May for foals here just 2 weeks ago we had a night in the high 30's We have had babies in April before not of our breeding and it is just too cold We also dont breed for late foals as in nothing after September it can be too cold then too. So that gives us June and July to catch them ugh.

I have one mare left to be bred that appears to be coming into heat now.

I have four tested positive by Pregnamare, two that I have not tested but no question in my mind that they are bred (as I saw them covered and they have a history of settling well), and two that have been covered, but not far enough along to test yet with Pregnamare.

It is going to be a busy March and April here next year. Things are usually warming up nicely here by then.

Last year my vet reminded me how cold and uncomfortable he was the year Ebony lost her foal so he asked that I wait until summer to breed. Well I thought Ice Man got right on it in the beginning of May and thought I would have babies by now. I guess Ice Man listened to the vet because I am still waiting. Being that I think it gets too hot here after June for labor (I had my son June 29th) and we were going to give them a year off, we won't be breeding back.

IF - When my two mares come in yes we plan on breeding them... Have one foal due this month then plan on breeding mom back also... We breed into late fall if we need to - don't like foals due before mid or late April.

I'm still breeding too. I put a stallion to a mare this morning who has not shown any signs of heat, but should have been in heat. She accepted the stallion. I have another mare who is overdue for her heat, but I tried her with a stallion this morning too and she wouldn't accept him. Will keep trying!!

we are breeding here--our mares are absolute HUSSIES this year--2 of them accepted the stallion for a month straight! not sure why--they vet checked out fine and the vet was surprised by that also.

we breed later also due to the cold although we are trying to get earlier foals (with no help from the hussies!).

Yes,

I have one that would not show heat last year. I just thought it was because she liked the babies. But we have not had our baby this year yet. And she still has not shown signs of heat. Her mother was showing real heavy heat in early May, (that is to early for us to breed) So now when the time is right and I want her to breed she is not instered.

I also have a mare that is going to a show on 18 June and I want to breed her after the show. So right now we have bred 2 out of the 5 we want done.

I just had the 2 mares that I want to breed vet checked, as they didn't take last year. Both are fine, so I'm just waiting for them to show signs ... nothing yet, though!

Yep when I lived in So Cal I tried to end my breeding season by early june due to the heat.. here in ID I will stop the end of this month. ALthough I am only breeding 3 mares this year anyway after no babies this year

I guess we'll be on tap to breed Zoey again next month,

for another try for a colt. June babies are nice here, as

God willing, the spring rains are over....and they can get

outside and play.

I pretty much quit breeding around June 1st as it has already hit 112 here in May!!! Dont want any mid summer babies here in the desert!! I have one more mare that I would like to breed back but if she doesnt come in season this week, then I guess she wont be bred til next year!

I am still breeding here in Delaware.I like my foals born in late April or May or early June so I will stop breeding in Mid July.1st foal this year was mid-March-a little too early for me.Funny cycles here this year-split cycles-in and bred for a few days-then out-then back in and bred for 2 days-then out again.I seem to have to breed 12 or 15 mares every year to end up with 5 or 6 foals. Not good percentages.I guess that's why Mini owners have such large herds. 1 more foal to go for this year -due June 7 . so far 2 b&wh colts 2 pinto fillies +1 dead girl in late Jan 1 dead colt at birth in May. I love foaling season, but am always glad when all babies are here&healthy.Hope everybody else is having good luck getting foals delivered&mares re bred.I have some mares with foals by side that are hard to re breed. They are so protective of foal that they don't want anything alive near that baby.

:aktion033: Yep, here in VA.......many of mine are the little gals and so only carry 300-310 days. I watch when to breed them because of that and having Dec/Jan foals  Jun/Jul breedings get Apr/May foals. Of course, the taller gals are a different story and need May/Jun breedings for April/May foals........there's a lot of math going on with the breedings around here

Have "some" mares due late Jun into mid Aug this year. Ok, I did pasture breeding this past year and I just never do that.

: It was sheer desperation, I think. HOWEVER, may never do it again as I found that the stallion mastered the "fence method" and an unexpected pregnancy was found about two weeks ago (unfortunate 9mo aborted) and the two that I felt were chunkier than normal are now bagging!

So, not sure how many but it looks like 3-8 (there were 6 with him) are candidates.

Hopefully next year will be more precisely planned. I don't breed many each year anyway.

Still breeding here too, probably won't end until mid-July. I don't mind June babies! :bgrin

I've been breeding mares for the last six weeks or so, with three stallions that are each just two years old. So far it looks like all the mares that have been bred haven't come back into heat. I did want to try breeding a maiden three year old mare but she hasn't been showing heat when I've brought her over to the stallions (the younger fillies are mostly kept farther away from the stallions so they can't be accidently bred through the fence) and I may just wait for next year for her. She's so refined, that is probably the best for her anyway to mature for another year.

So, to answer your question-- I will still be breeding if any of the previously-covered mares come back into heat, for just a little while longer, but I want to be able to show next year and foals that arrive too late in the year keep me from showing, so I do usually quit breeding by about mid-June.

We bred our first mare 2 weeks ago - waiting to see if she "took". May breed our 2nd one tonight -- 2 more to be bred - trying to stagger the breeding dates if possible. (4 mares to be bred this year).

We are using 2 different stallions this year one is ASPC/AMHR and the other AMHA/AMHR.

I prefer foals that are born in May or June (late April at the earliest) - as I don't like to sleep in a cold barn.

We have 5 mares - but one is only 2 this year - so will wait to breed her the first time June 2007.

I remember when you posted this last summer you got much the same answers.

: A lot of it depends on where you live and if you show what your show schedule will be. In N Louisiana our winters aren't too extreme so we start early and try to have the last foals due the first part of July. August tends to be our worst month. But this year I do have one mare due the first week in August.

I am still waiting on my 2 mares to foal!!! Due to foal the last week of July first week of August. We did not get to breed till late last year, ( a lot of turmoil in our lives). So no we are not going to breed back this year sigh,
default_sad.png
no babies for 2007 for us. But this way IF I deciede to breed next year we will have spring foals... But, I do still have 3 stalls empty in my mare barn
