Is anyone else still breeding?

I had planned to be done by now, but the last mare isn't cooperating! She cycled fine last year when we weren't trying to breed her, but this year has been weird. She took forever to come in the first time, then she was in for 3 1/2 weeks (and no, the HcG? shot doesn't work on all mares  ) and didn't settle. My vet has ultrasounded her twice, so we know she's open. She has always been 100% accurate on the ultrasounds for us through the years, even in our big horse days. Here it is 42 days later, yes, that's right, 42 days since the mare was last bred, and NOTHING!!

: Out of desperation, we've started her on Regumate to try to bring her in. This is our last try with her for the year, as we didn't want any foals born in May as it interferes with our show schedule.

I am done, I think. Waiting on two to see if they come back in or not. I will have all Jinx babies except one next year.

My first foal will be here end of January (Lucy x Jinx).

: Jinx baby, I'm excited what can I say? :bgrin

Then Ms. B is due first of April (Jinx foal).

Rhythum is due 2nd week of April. She is bred to a son of SG Rangers Nightrain.

Blossom is due same time (Jinx foal).

And than possibly two other Jinx foals first of May.

Well, not me, but my horses are! LOL

We are not done foaling here yet. I don't start breeding until May 1st. It's just too cold here for early foals. My mares foal around 300-320 days and that means the foals start coming at the end of March and I don't want any earlier than that.

I've just started the breeding season and am waiting to see if the first few settled or not. Waiting for more mares to come in, and waiting for some to foal. (I don't breed on the foal heat)

Have to spread them out too, I'd freak out if they were all due at the same time! LOL!

I am definitely breeding!

: I used to have very early foals (Jan, Feb & March) One year I waited, instead of breeding on foal heats & then I was having April foals. Nice, except we always go to Vegas in April. I was a basketcase every year, worrying about who might foal while we were gone! :new_shocked:

So, I've now started breeding for May babies.....I know I'll be home & the weather is usually nice & warm by then.

Yep...still breeding here too. Got everyone bred one cycle, but seems some are coming back into heat again. Not sure if a true heat or a false heat, but they are going to be bred again anyway.

At my aunts we just put the mares out with the stallions last weekend.

I have one mare that I think is bred for March(stallion escaped) and the other two I planed on breeding just went with the stud. If I had my way I would have Feb. March foals but I dont get my way on that. I was allowed to bred one mare for March, that mare however I just traded for a weanling filly so I wont have that foal anyway.

Have 2 possibly 3 mares settled by Sundance, one covered for a client and one that has just come into season plus one covered today for the 4th time by my younger stallion and I have a foal due june 21st but looks like she will go sooner......then last one due in august.

You betcha. The bulk of our mares still need to be "exposed" to their husbands! Of course, that means we'll be having a very busy May and June NEXT year.

I'm taking my girl who was supposed to be bred, but must have lost her baby sometime after December back on Monday hopefully. I do wish we had discovered she was open sooner, foal watch would not have cut into the show season so much next year, but oh well, it's worth it. It will be nice not worrying about the cold as well.

We are still breeding-- still have 3 babies to go -- so will be breeding for awhile yet.

Still breeding here Marty.........been the straaaangest year! Mrares I thought were bred & in foal back in March/April are ultrasounding open! And they are shut down! Nothing going on. Some are mares with foals at side and some maidens. Thank goodness for ultrasound or we wouldn't know what was going on. We have gradually gotten everyone in foal except for 3 and one of those is on 10 days of Regumate and one just came off. (one of the 3 is Bobbi & I can't count her as a problem as she just foaled! LOL)

Our 'mare stare' next year is going to be reeeeal spread out! And I really don't like foaling in the summer heat........hard on the babies. But we will keep breeding up till Oct 1 if we have to.

Greystone, that pic in your avatar is gorgeous!

Still breeding here. I had mares not even start cycling until May! Sooooo..... I'm now waiting to see if any of those come back in heat after being bred a couple of weeks ago. Vegas is due to come in heat anytime now after foaling 1 1/2 weeks ago. Blossom is in heat AGAIN and being bred through her 4th cycle!

: And then I have a new little 28" maiden mare I am waiting to breed until next month so she won't foal until after the height of show season. So, my foaling season next year looks to run from Feb through?????

Oh, and I have two more mares to foal this year in Sept!

I am keeping fingers crossed that the mares I bred are in foal. None of them has come back in heat and they would have twice since breeding. Had some suprises this year though... my leopard mare Saga decided she did not want to breed to my appy stallion Justin and just would not show at all with him but let her go talk to our little 26" stallion and it's "come get me!" so we bred Saga to him. Misty is our "she never breeds with a foal at foot" mare suprised me by coming in and Justin bred her successfully. Calita, out Falabella appy mare was successfully bred down in PA by friend and forum member's stallion- Kim Landis and her leopard appy Falabella Chips. So looking foward to next year!!!!

So-

Saga (bold black near leopard imported ) x Squiter (26" black rabicano)

Misty (black) x Justin (large blanket spots appy)

Calita (black with big spots blanket) x CHips (bold spotted leopard)

I still have two mares that I'm waiting to come back into heat and watching, watching........I haven't seen them come back in now since the first week of April and I didn't want a March baby due to the cold weather, so here I wait.

Seems like everyone except the ones I want bred are in heat around here!

Anyone else still breeding?

We will be going late this year for a breeding on our Modern mare. Not doing the mins as finding an outside stallion has been hard!

Hi Marty,

I just bred my first mare of the season. Plan on breeding acouple more the end of June. It is so nice having warmer nights to foal out the babies. We are in NJ.
