Is it inappropriate to contact someone......

My wife inquired about a mini she liked about three years ago. The woman who owned the horse was a stranger to us. She told my wife the horse wasn't for sale.

Things change.

We just got home with that horse a few hours ago.

The owner may not know or remember that you like this mare so much. If you don't let her know how you feel, she could end up sold to someone else!

Go ahead and call or email. Its a compliment really. Even if she doesn't want to sell. Don't DROOL too much... the price could go up!), just tell her you admired the mare for a while now and to please remember you( give her all your contact information) if she is ever in the situation that she will sell the mare. You will give her great care and a good home.

That is how I got one of my nicest mares. I saw the mare( not for sale) and told the owner that if she was ever for sale, to contact me. 6 months later, the mare was MINE!!!!

Do ask. I would feel delighted to know someone admired my horse and would give them first chance if I was ever to sell the horse they called about. That's my thoughts.

I agree call and ask. I have had several people ask me about some of my aunts horses. I also sold one that way this year. I was asked about one of my mares a year ago, and at the time I had no plans to sell her. HOwever I totally changed my program around this year, called the lady up and now she has a new home. Were I feel she is loved and well cared for. And she also got to stay with her buddies. I have sold them 4 horses in the last year.

Hey, I would call. Sometimes things happen in people's lives and what was not for sale last year, might be this year. You could also give them your name and number 'just in case' they ever did sell her. You might even make some new friends and get to go visit her!! Who knows what could become of it all?

Well, I did indeed contact the owner, and they have traded her back to the person they originally purchased her from for another mare they had wanted. But I did get in contact with the person who now owns her, and he said she isn't currently for sale, but may be in the near future. So we have chatted back and forth a bit and hope to able to aquire the mare later this summer if all works out in my favor and the owner decides to part with her for a price that I can afford! LOL! So I will keep my fingers crossed!

I too agree that it would be a compliment to me to have someone inquire on any of my horses, regardless of whether or not they were for sale. But I just wanted to run it by other horse people to see if we were in agreement, and it appears that we are!
