I have only ever seen shipping fever in horses that had been on a long haul by a shipper or someone that moves a lot of different horses. We drove our horses ourselves from CA here to NH in 2000. it took us 8 days. None of the horses got sick. We also just went and picked up Cleo, my mare that almost stayed sold, and she had been locked in a stall for 2 weeks. It was a 4 hour trailer ride her her. She is not sick either, but she has only been home a week.

So, I guess Slick could be sick from being taken from his house to ours, but I don't think so.

He is looking better today. No snot so far. :aktion033:

I agree with Danielle it could be shipping fever. I had two horses shipped in from Manitoba and well guess what my little 5 month old colt got the same thing as shown cough and a snotty nose, not yellow yet but if I let it go it will get worse. We have the vet coming today.

I don't fool around with this stuff any slight cough or runny nose I freak!!!! especially with my young ones.

Good luck with him!!

Well I still believe it is a "viral" infection by what I am seeing here and that needs to be treated with antibiotic but check with your vet and get his/her opinion. Be careful that your others don't come down with it. If it's viral and they go nose to nose the other will catch it. It usually starts with just runny nose and a bit of cough but soon it becomes yellow like your little guy and can get to "green" which is NOT a good thing.

Wanted to say he is a cutie patootie

He is doing better. I think he got chilled when we had a lot of rain and then below freezing temps. I dried him off twice because he was soaked to the skin! Rocky was not that wet. There is 2 buildings they have in their pen, so if Rocky kicked Slick out of one, he could have went into the other. I don't have a real barn so I make due with out buildings.

I didn't start the SMZ's because the vet said I should only start them if he got worse. Well, today he is better. Only a tiny big of yellow snot in his nose today. I put his blanket on for the night and will take it back off in the morning if it is warm enough and not windy.

Thanks for caring!!
