Thursday was the turning point. I like my job, like the company that I work for, like most of the people that I work with, etc. but my boss is a jerk.
First of all, I asked in January for my anniversary off and he scheduled me 12 hours that day because he could have that day off if he could get the store covered. Second, I asked for a day off to attend a horse show and he said nope, he was going to take that day off.
We are getting ready for inventory and there is a lot to do and I was working on it as fast as I could and he kept checking to see what I was doing. But, Thursday, he was being a complete jerk and kept telling me 25 things to do then griping because I wasn't getting them all done at once. Now, I am not new to retail, I actually have a lot more experience than he does and I am not a slow worker. But what really made me decide that I could not stand it any more was the fact that he not only took off Friday and Saturday but that he had the audacity to call and tell the other manager to stay with me and make sure I was working.
I do NOT goof off, I have a strong work ethic and have never had anybody accuse me of not working or of working slow. I usually work 50-60 hours a week.
On the taking day's off, that is the only 2 days I requested this year other than the vacation that he tried to block.
I think he is intimidated by the fact that I have 35 years retail experience and over 20 of it in management.
I told him I was not after his job, don't want it, wouldn't take it if it was offered to me, but I still think he is insecure and is afraid I am going after his job.
I will give the company owner the respect of telling her that I am job hunting and won't just leave them high and dry but I can't stand being treated like a slacker.
Thanks for letting me vent,
Mary
