Im just wondering if Bentley is an Overo or a Tobiano???

A friend of mine asked today and i said i would ask on here...

His pictures are on my gallery and on my avatar, for some reason i cant attatch pictures today??

Looks to be tobiano. May carry another pattern but I'll let the color gurus chime in. Very cute, regardless.

Tobiano = white goes over the back

Overo = white does not go over(o) the back...

eta: It also looks like he has "paw prints" - i.e. color spots within the large patches of white... This indicates he may be homozygous tobiano. Meaning when bred to solid, he will always produce color (tobiano).

Tobiano, but without testing there's no way to know what else he may carry. Does he have facial white?

No, he has a TINY TINY snip, or i think its a snip i dont know, and a white patch of hair from being attacked by a rattlesnake when he was younger. But no, no obvious white markings. His pedigree is full of pintos.

I found the dam on the web as Lucky Four Apache Starlite, she is listed as an overo, it does not state if she was tested or not (not a full face shot, but from what I viewed, I would be up in the air on that one, unless tested). The sire is from cross country breeding which goes back Rowdy (known LWO carrier, meaning he carried overo). I do not know if the sire has been tested LWO, I would guess with his breeding he most likely is tested.

In a nut shell, with that breeding, there is no way to be certain unless you test. If your friend is familiar with minis, she may have asked because of the known connection between LWO and Rowdy bloodlines. If you have any intention of ever using him as a stud, TEST! ESP. Given his background.

If by "overo" you mean Frame he is not visually so, although in view of his breeding it is always a good idea to test, essential if you intend to breed.

Tobiano does not necessarily have white over the back, if you go to minimal or even reduced, you can just have four white socks/stockings, so that one can go out the window! It is also very, very rare to find just one pattern present. Not impossible of course, and still not possible to prove by testing, but rare, none the less.

Haha, guys hes a gelding

My friend asked because they were doing some kind of horse color project in her Ag class, and she wanted to use Bentley as an example, and i was just curious myself. I dont plan on testing him for anything since hes just a gelding. I didnt know (or was too lazy to go far back in his pedigree) that he was related to Rowdy! Too cool!
