BAck in 1997, when I was fairly new to the internet and LB, I was frantically trying to figure out a "screen name" for the various chat rooms I frequented.
I looked out my window for inspiration, and there, trotting along the fenceline was Nootka, my then 2 year old pet cat.
I'd "adopted" her as a baby, just brand newborn, and took her from her momma for short periods of time, and let her ride in my shirt pocket. She was the firstborn of that litter, and had a perfect number "one" on her side in her markings.
I named her Nootka as at the time I was studying different native cultures of the NW Coast, and found the name on the maps, also the Nootka natives of BC/Alaska. It is also a plant, Nootka Lupine, and there is a Nootka Sound in BC, I think it is...just thought it was different.
Nootka was born Mar. 6, 1994, and so sad...she died last Dec. 11, 2004. She would have been eleven this year, and I miss her every day. My husband brought home some Nootka Lupine seeds from Alaska this last Summer to plant over her grave.
Here is Nootka, a photo taken when she was about 8 years old. I'd give anything to see this in real life, and sometimes I "hallucinate" her, and have to look again to make sure it really isn't her, even though I know it is not possible.
So that is why I am Nootka. Not all that original!
