I can see things in the distance which only appeared as a waterclor painting(soft muted colors) now I see what sees like forever crip, clear brighters colors like the best 35 mm photo. Now for the down side(because you know with every upside comes a downside) my close up vision sucks!(and that is being polite) Today when I went for my follow up they handed me a piece of paper to complete(don't know why because already answered and filled out same questions previously) but when I looked down at the paper it was a complete blurr...bummmmmmmmer!

A bit distraught lots of blinking and the help of my husband I got it filled out. Talked to the Doc he says the flaps are healing fantastic and that I will need readers. He did say my eyesight will fluctuate in the next two weeks before it is what it will be. So there is the update for those that want to know.

Glad to hear your distant vision turned out so well. I too had inquired about Lasik Surgery last year, and they told me it would do just what it has for you...made the distance good, but would make the close-up even worse than it is now, so O ppted out, as it is really the close-up that I would like fixed the most. My distant vision is not too bad, but I do need bifocals for close up.

I sure wish they had something that would take care of BOTH!!

They can do one eye for close up and one eye for far away, I believe it's called monovision. Your eyes will compensate for each other and you can be 20/20 with both eyes open. I could not do that because for my medical for work I have to be 20/20 in each eye separately. I'm surprised the Doctor didn't recommend it for you.

I had monovision surgery done about 13 years ago. It was wonderful. They told me at the time my eyes would continue to change with age, and they have, but I would have been in glasses a long time ago without the surgery on one eye. One of the best things I ever had done. Anyway for those of you who wish they could fix both....they can.

I am glad to hear you had it and your distance vision is so good!!!

Can you go to Walmart or the drugstore and get some reading glasses? If you go in, they have a chart by the display and you see which line you can read clearly and it tells you which strength of readers to get. They're only a few dollars (I get 3-packs at Walmart for less than $8).

I would bet your reading vision will improve with healing, but the readers are so inexpensive and, for me at least, not a real big deal to put on when I need to read.

Good luck

When mom had hers done several yrs ago she was told to wait 2-3 months before having her glasses changed as she would have some vision changes with healing. So, know that you probably will also.

Like Jill suggests, get some inexpensive readers and keep checking your progress.
