I have two questions, the first is simply just a matter of opinion for the most part - I have my thoughts and opinions on it but always like to hear others thoughts. My ponies are ASPC Classic Liberty horses, but for the most part this is all the same..

1) How much do Lyrics really matter to you / judge when selecting a song? I know it all comes down the matching the horses movement and attitude, but do you take the lyrics into consideration?

2) Can I enter two horses into liberty (not at the same time, I know - wanted to clarify, but with two different runs?). I've got two that are OUTSTANDING liberty horses and want to show them both in classic liberty....they are both total opposite type liberty horses, one is a powerhouse and a half...the other is really elegant and classy. I've got their songs already picked out but want to make sure I can enter both. I honestly don't think I could pick between the two!

Thanks,

Leeana

I wouldn't worry about the lyrics at all as long as they are "clean." It's the overall song impression that is the most important.

One exhibitor can show as many horses in the Liberty class as they like! So, show both of your ponies!

Good luck,

Andrea

Question Number One -- I'm not a judge, but as long as the lyrics aren't offensive, I don't think they matter. In fact, some folks prefer just instrumental pieces.

Question Number Two -- There are trainers who enter a half dozen liberty horses..... Go for it!

The only suggestion I can make for you is that we try and match the age of the judges to the music. Now I know that sounds silly, but it does make an ompression when they know the song. Also if you know anything about the judge as far as likes and dislikes match the music to that also. For instance there is one judge my granddaughter shows liberty under that is a jazz fan and she uses a jazz song that is up tempo and matches her horse under him.

Thank you! I would never dream of using a liberty song with swear words or that anyone could find offensive. If you've met and known me at all you know i'm a really emotional person, so I am wondering if those lyrics that are in the song I selected for the one pony that is my "special pony" will matter at all to anyone but me.....

It is hard to find music that doesnt offend somebody as everyone has their own idea of what is offensive

I go with what I like and what my horses seem to like and then they usually keep that song Caspers song has been his for years it is a bit outdated but he likes it and knows what it is .

Dancer uses My Humps (funny cause she is umm a bit plump) she has always placed very well

Most judges I have asked say they do not really count people down for music as everyone has their own taste however beat and movement they look at

So your sayin that I can enter 2 minis into a Liberty class??? Any show???

I will be attending the BWMHC Jubilee AMHR show in Midland MI and I can enter both of my minis???

THAT WOULD BE GREAT!!!

Personally, I prefer music that has no lyrics. I think often times lyrics can get in the way.

Yes, you can enter as many as you would like!

In classes like liberty, hunter, jumper and halter obstacle you can enter as many horses as you like in the class- they are usually some of the largest classes at a show:yes

I agree with John 100% about taking the ages of the judges into consideration. Generally speaking, many people in their 50's and 60's don't particularly enjoy some of the same music that some in their teens and 20's do. The music is, in fact, one of the many elements that are being judged, so if it makes my ears bleed or if it makes me think this is the longest minute and a half EVER, you can be guaranteed of being marked down on your music. But finding a song whose lyrics and rhythm clearly match some trait(s) of the horse adds to a favourable impression, to be sure.

Good luck and have lots of fun showing BOTH your ponies in liberty, Leeana!

I totally agree with John. The music needs to reflect the ages of your judges. I personally love the instrumental presentations.

Good Luck!

Nice way of saying it! Most the time the lyrics aren't noticed unless they're really annoying or really match the horse but either of those will make an impression. I lucked out because Kody's song ("Get Off Of My Back" from the Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron soundtrack) has a great intro, the beat matches his movement and I swear that horse plays along to the lyrics. He sasses the judges, rears and flips his head at whoever is helping me, and you can almost hear him saying "You want to mess with me? Give it your best shot!" I love that horse. I had a hard time finding music that fit Turbo as well and have settled on an instrumental piece for him.

I agree that the lyrics need to be clean- you are dealing with a family environment here. I am not easily offended but I know others that are and would not stick around to have their small children listen to 'suggestive' songs.

There is a problem matching the music to the judges... many people dont know the judges, their age or their preferences! And age can be deceiving as well... I have been shocked (and shocked others, LOL) by the types of music I have heard folks listen to that looked like they should have prefered something else, hahaha

i think if the words are appropriate and the beat fits the horse's movement then the lyrics dont matter. as for the number of horses, i've seen someone enter 8 horses and it was allowed

In my time as an announcer, I have more than likely seen as many Liberty classes as anyone. I agree with those that say you need to match the music to the way your horse moves. The lyrics don't mean much. Years ago, lots of people used "It's a Small World" for miniature horse Liberty because of the title of the song (please Lord, don't let anyone use that song again EVER!!!) The same thing with Alan Jackson's song "Little Bitty". It's hard to match the music to the age of your judges as well, I know some of the older judges that are rockers, some that like country, and many with varied tastes in music. I think the best you can do is fine a piece of music that works with how your horse or pony moves. Offensive lyrics do not work. You do have to consider yoiur audience there. This is all IMHO.
