We have a six month old baby llama that thinks she's a mini. However, her favorite place to rest is up against our house where it's wind protected, yet nothing overhead. This is our first snowstorm and I want to quickly make a lean-to type cover for her and my husband says I'm being ridiculous. She does go into the regular lean-tos on occasion, but she chooses to cush against the house.

Any thoughts, suggestions, advice?

If she has access to shelter she should be fine.

Llamas are native to a much harsher climate than anywhere in the U.S. has to offer. They are amazing animals!

We have a baby here who is probably only about 4 or so months old. She dont like to go inside either. She lives with 2 baby goats, a fainter and a laumuncha. So if I want her to go in her calf hut I will just feed them there hay in there. She will go in there and normally stay in there if her goat buddys are there.

Like the others said, she'll be just fine. My llama lives with 2 dwarf goats and 2 of my minis. They have one run in shed and if the weather is really bad, they will all be laying down together. The llama does spend more of his time outside cushed next to the shed than inside it.

Thanks everyone......the worry wart will calm down now with a cup of warm tea!

It's right at zero with the windchill and don't see any snow on her back. Maybe she snuck into the lean-to after we went to bed....she likes to look into the windows at night and see what we're up to. Yes, our minis can come right up to the house.....only Patsy can look inside EVERY window.

That is so cool that she can look right in the house at you!

I'd probably get spooked.

I asked my Llama Menter about the cold and LLama's and she said that you have to worry more about the summer heat than the winter cold. She clips all hers in the spring and I will do my two too. But for now, they sometimes use the shelters but still had snow on there back and I know it's like wool but my little Crystal, well, their just doesn't look like theres alot to her. so I still worry a little bit.
