I've just been informed by the woman who designed and maintains by Website that she won't be doing it any more and so the whole thing will just disappear off into Cyber Space.

Not happy. I love my Website.

It was only ever a vanity thing but I don't think it is right for it to be just dropped................................actually getting angry now. Take your money and then cast you aside like an old shoe. Boo hoo.

Anyway just letting you know that if you haven't already had a peak you better get in quick. All my paddock scruffs await your adoration.

Sorry to hear that... but I highly suggest you find someone to do your site, or at least register the domain name yourself before it expires. Once it expires, a lot of web host companies will buy it and it will be very difficult to get your domain name back.

Good luck,

Andrea

I just looked on the Whois and it appears that Kirsty owns your domain name. She will need to unlock it for you to transfer it to somewhere of your choice. You need to do it before it expires late June, so you have some time. Lots of people here on the forum have experience so if you have any questions I'm sure we can all help you out!

Good luck,

Andrea

I'm sorry to hear of your troubles, I have a different problem, we own our domain name, my daughter hired a mini person to redo our site, Hubby lost his job, that is another story, anyway this mini person took her deposit and ran, no redo on our web site. Could have taken that money and thrown it out the truck window, and got the same result. Won't return our phone calls, e-mails, whatever. There are some crummy people out there, if you want her name PM me. I'll steer you clear of this one!

If I can get the domain name unlocked and transferred does that mean the whole website will reman intact. Total ignorance here. Is it difficult to maintain your own site?

If you get the domain unlocked and transferred, you will also need to get it hosted to maintain any content on your site.

Whether or not the content can stay really depends on her. Especially if you use a different domain host. She has to publish the content onto your site for you. But you then wouldn't be able to update it.

A lot of web hosts have easy-to-use templates that you can build a new site for yourself on, I think many people find it more intimidating than it actually is.

Good luck,

Andrea

Ditto- definitely copy the website content and save it! You can always use the code in a webpage editor as a template to start over from. It's really not very hard. Most of them have WYSIWYG editors so it's like working in a Word document and the program does all the coding behind the scenes for you. You just design it how you want and hit "Publish."

Leia I didn't understand a word of what you wrote but I'm sure it's great advice. Ignorance rampant here.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I'll probably end up trying to build my own site. Who knows, it may be fun.

As suggested, do something before it expires.I let mine expire when designer stopped doing web sites and hosting.Found a new person to do it and when she wanted to use my existing farm name with .com it had been snatched up by someone who wanted $3000 to sell it back to me I had lots of business cards and other ad type stuff already printed so web designer suggested to use farm name and .net I am really pleased with her design and hosting and she is priced very low for what I get.

I love my website too but will be letting it expire this yr due to other finacial things. I did copy all the wording so I still have that but going to try and find a fee one and do it myself in the future.
