Hi everyone :saludando:

I was planning to wait until I had reached goal before I posted on here... But I have really been struggling lately and thought maybe some of you have been through/are going through the same thing.

15 weeks ago my mum and I joined Weight Watchers, it was the best thing I have ever done. I felt so great to start with, i was losing over a kg every week. And everything was great. I recently reached my mini goal of 10kgs which I was extremly proud of.

But recently Ive been having a hard time with it. Ive been going off track and eating things I wouldnt have dreamed of eating when I started. Ive been feeling really unhappy about it, Ive tried talking to my mum but she only had a few kgs to lose and shes already there and just doesnt get it...

Im terrified of going backwards and ruining all my hard work, but im also constantly feeling like I just cant do it anymore.

Ok Im done lol

Thanks for listening.

Weight loss is very hard to do. You can go back and forth. But just try to remember that you did and can continue to do it. It is normal to have doubts and to have set backs. It is somtimes easy for some, but harder on others. Don't be to hard on yourself. Just try to remember that you are trying...

Do not beat yourself up- your body is just working against you, that is all, the cravings will pass.

Have you tried eating just a little bit of what you fancy, however naughty it is??

Then you can feel naughty because you ate it, and good because you did not eat it all- all at once.

You have done brilliantly to come this far- I applaud you, please do not give up and do not feel bad.

Could you get a "sponsor" or just team up with someone who has as much weight to lose as you do??

And are you absolutely sure you have set yourself a reasonable, healthy target??

I've done the yo-yo thing all my life. My greatest success was with Weight Watchers. My error was in not continuing to go. These are the biggest things I've learned.

1. You can't "diet" forever. It is a lifestyle change and you need to be able to incorperate the problem foods as well. The key is moderation and exercise! You either eat less of the food or exercise more. Calories in and Calories burned.

2. Set a danger target weight! Weigh yourself weekly and if you've hit that danger weight get serious about tracking your food and exercise again!! Usually the danger weight is within 5 lbs of your desired weight(or about 2 kgs).

3. Keep going to the meetings! That group support is wonderful. If you can't afford the meetings, find a few friends and get together and talk it out and weigh in!

Good luck!!

Forgot to mention- the nearer you get to your target the harder it is to lose the weight- your body will start to slow down as it gets near where it ought to be.

It sort of gets complacent.

Don't join it!!

I changed the way I eat on March 6, 2006. Two years ago I had lost 50 lb then gained 25 of it back. Since March I have lost 38 pounds and I do not feel as if I am dieting at all. I do not stick to it as strict as I used to, When I did I was losing 3 lb a week. No I am taking it easy and only losing 3 lb a month. But still losing and eating what ever I want and never hungery.

Some of the tricks? Find new foods to eat. read labels, if you cheat so what. Right back to it the next day. Most of my cheats are not really cheats but they feel like it to me.

I am doing low carb. The reason this works for me is that I feel so much better. My ankle no longer hurts, my knee feels great. Not to mention the bathroom issues. Eating anything sugar would send me off on an eating bing. Not sure if it was the sugers or the glutons but something would give me an upset stomach. I experimented with foods I had never had before.

I eat lost of veggies, salads, eggs, and meat. I substitue things like mashed cauliflower and celery root for potatoes. I only use low carb bread and very little of it. I eat ice cream every day. but only low carb.

To make any diet work you need to have variety. If you feel limited it is not going to work. It it is complicated to follow it will not work. Problem is most diets give us a lot more variety then we eat. We limit ourself. We are afraid to try new things.

Try something new. Experiement with new recipes, give yourself some variety.

Great advice...

It is definitely something to look at as an everyday approach as opposed to a "diet" which implies something temporary or with an end.

Yes, it's ok to have something decadent on occasion (heck I eat stuff I shouldn't every day, I just eat less of it and I try to make sure I add a few minutes to my workout on a tradeoff), to slip up, etc.

Try adding a different type of exercise, something you can do more often, and work up to harder workouts.

Call your friend and make a date to go shopping/try on clothes, those seem to be good motivators not to let the pounds creep back on.

It is NOT easy to maintain and many setbacks will be pitfalls (stressful situations, layups from an injury, etc.).

Those plateaus where you reach a weight and can't seem to get past are the worst. You do need to try and wait it out or change something to help boost your metabolism again. Do you watch Celebrity Fit Club? They have that "Zone" diet they use for jumpstarting weight loss...good thing to try out....

Hi Helen...you just need to re-focus and pick a day in the very near future and get back on the path. I agree so much with Susan.....a "Low Carb" diet is a wonderful thing and does work :aktion033: You shouldn't ever be hungry. I lost 40 pounds in the first year and have maintained (with adding a few more carbs) the last year. My cholesterol counts are in normal range and I feel great. If you choose to go with the "Low Carb" diet .... I would strongly suggest you get the "Atkins" book and see if it is for you. Get re-focused...you'll meet your goal

Thanks so much guys. Having your support means a lot to me..

I think i may just try to cut out some carbs, they are a bit of a weakness for me and I do so much better without them. I found out that there is a weight watchers forum, its not a patch on this place but I guess ill give it a go.

Hopefully sometime in the not to distant future ill have some photos to show you

My mum and I talked about it, I showed her what i wrote and we are going to start up a reward system, when I get to small goals along the way I can choose a treat. Eg. a massage, new clothes, movies. Im really liking that idea

Starting fresh as of tomorrow
