Tate would have been 17 in October. This protector only weighing 12 pounds, watched out for me up to the very end. He took care of me, watched out for me since the day he came into our home, and his passing was no different. Tate's health had been failing rapidly over the past week, it just doesn't take long at this age. While at the vet yesterday, I decided to take him home, spend one last night with him, and take him back this morning to let him cross over. Even in his condition he still continued to watch over me. I'm sure knowing how very difficult it all had been for me, he didn't want me to make that decision, Tate passed away at midnight quietly in his sleep.

We came home yesterday, wrapped him in his favorite blanket, sat in his corner of the couch, and talked about all he had done.

There will never be a better friend. For over 16 years, each and every day, he has waited at the door for me until I came home, something he did even when I was gone several days. He has traveled many places with me and loved his rides in the truck. Still protecting me, as he would always go after the toll people when they reached into the truck to accept my toll fee. Tate told me when my son had a bike wreck, when Prints foaled 5 years ago, he let me know every single time someone was at my house, he took unknown abuse when he went after the guys who broke into our house last May, and on and on. There is no doubt he did more for me than would ever be expected. But packed into that little 12 pound chi-mix body, was an 11 pound heart of gold.

I am not sure how I was so very blessed to come to have 16 years with a very, very special friend. But as I wonder how I will get through the day without him, how I will sleep without him lying on my ankles, I do know I am extremely grateful for having the opportunity of being on the receiving end of his commitment, dedication, loyality, and love.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Bless his little heart, it seems he not only protected you for all those years but he also decided to spare you the painful decision you were about to face. He'll be found playing on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge when it's time for you to be together again.

I am so sorry for your loss. It's been almost 8 months since I lost my best friend, I had a very difficult time with it and at times still do. I got alot of support from Lightning Strikes Pet Loss Forum...wonderful, caring people who understand. I'm thinking of you and your furangel.

Hugs,

Sonya

Wow I am so terribly sorry. It is a horrible loss to loose a family member. Even when in the back of your mind, you tell yourself it will be soon. NEVER makes it easier. He probably will be sending someone to keep watching over you. It seems to work that way. Sorry again.

So sorry for you loss. I lost my best girl 9 months ago, and somedays its so hard, but we do go on. [To top off my lousy year, I lost my best equine friend a month ago, he was my best friend for 24 of his 27 years.]

Oh dear, I am so sorry that your little Tate is gone but how wonderful that he went in his sleep. Take care of yourself, Carolyn.

It is never easy to say goodbye to our furry friends.

Sending my sympathy for your loss. You had your friend for a wonderfully long time, but I know it wasn't long enough.

Beautiful tribute to your Tate, Carolyn. It is a blessing to have these fur-people in our lives. Always just THERE, no matter what. My thoughts are with you...

Carolyn, I'm SO sorry!!!!!!

I know Tate was happy you took him home that night and let him protect you one last time before he had to go. Don't be surprised if you feel pressure on your ankle, I have a feeling he will keep watching over you for a while.

There's nothing I can do to ease your pain, but I send you {{{{Hugs}}}}

Carolyn

So very sorry to hear of the passing of your great little guardian. He wanted to be sure you were safe and sound before he quietly slipped away. He knew you were safe and he could go without you having to make a decision that he did not want you to have to make.

HUGS to you on the passing of your dear sweet guardian with a heart of gold!!!

Carolyn-

So sorry for your loss of Tate. I know he will still be watching over you! RIP Tate - thanks for being the special little guy you were.

So beautifully said. I know it must be very hard, 16 yrs is a good long time to share your life with someone so special as Tate. Saying a prayer to help your heart heal.

Im sorry you have lost your Tate. I think we all have or have had a once in a lifetime pet that just tears us up when they leave us. RIP Tate, you will be sadly missed by your mommie...{{{HUGS}}}
