We are so very fortunate to have the youngest two grandkids (we have a total of six), live right across our hay field. We have a 4 wheeler trail from our place to theirs, or we just drive it down the road.
Last year, when my grandson was just over 2, and my granddaughter 7, I started picking them up in the evening for a four wheeler ride through the woods and fields. We have about five miles of groomed trails and the kids loved the idea of riding at night. then, we began singing songs on the rides, and we always took their lab and my two labs along with us.
The "night ride" has been going on almost every night for over a year now. We have to quit in the winter only when the snow gets too deep to get the four wheeler through it. My little grandson, now three, is absolutely nuts about these rides, and he is also a great singer, so ever ride is full of songs, and he sings at the top of his lungs. So far this spring our new songs are "Three Little Fishies," Zippity Doo Dah," "Davey Crockett," "B.I.N.G.O," and the chorus to "The Witch Doctor." (Ooo eee oooo ah ah, ting tang walla walla bing bang). His mom and dad wait on lawn chairs on their patio while we ride and he always sings at the top of his lungs, hoping they hear him when we're a mile away! LOL!
And this year my granddaughter and I have started a "secret garden." We set it a bit off of one of the trails, tucked back at the base of some wild honeysuckle hidden in a little alcove, but when the flowers get bigger you'll easily see it from the trail. She and I are scouring stores for little "fairy" statues to stick in it, and little houses and furniture, and she loves picking out flowers and landscaping it.
I think the kids will remember those night rides for all their lives, and I know my granddaughter will always remember her fairy garden.
Are you making any "memories" with loved ones in your lives?
