I am about to start peeling the potatoes for the Thanksgiving mashed potatoes and I got to thinking...I'd like to see if any of you have any different recipes for them....other than "plain ol' mashed taters" ??

Will return to see if any of you gave me some ideas....

Linda, I have several differnt mashed potato recipes. One I like a lot and my kids will stay home just to have is this one.

Boil your potatoes until done just like for mashed. About seven med potatoes. Drain potatoes. Put into large bowl for mashing. Add in one small container of sour cream. Then the same amount of butter. Add in some dried parsley, mainly for color so do this to your personal taste. About a teaspoon of salt. Then I also add in some McKormick's garlic season-all, maybe another teaspoon. Mash thoroughly. Enjoy!

I like to mash mine and add in a few slices of american cheese and garlic salt. My whole family likes those and you don't need gravy. They should have a slight orange tint if you get the right amount of cheese.

Have a great Thanksgiving!

Mustard- you cannot have mash without mustard!!

And an egg!!

Add the egg right into the hot potatoes, then butter, cream (the sour cream sounds good!!) mash and mix and then add a small amount of pepper and mustard- not enough to add colour, and make it Dijon, not the grotty hamburger stuff, get good mustard.

It is YUMMY.

I will eat it as a meal.

My niece was weaned on the stuff (hence the addition of the eggs and/or cheese.

I like to grate a little fresh nutmeg in my mashed potatoes. Heat the milk (you can sub chicken broth for some of the milk), and add a couple of tbsp. of Smart Balance and/or butter or margarine, then run 'em through a ricer. Fluffy!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!! :saludando:

I don't have a different recipe for mashed potatoes but I do have one for the leftover mashed potatoes. Save your mashed potatoes in your fridge in an air tight container then later pull them out and put into a bowl. Add one egg and just enough all purpose flour to make it just barely thick enough to make a small wet cake patty out of them about 2 inched across. Get a teflon skillet and add just enough oil in the bottom to keep the patties from sticking. Fry on each side and wallah you have potatoe cakes! Everyone here at my house loves them and I grew up on them when I was younger. Nothing should go to waste

i like my taters nice and smooth with lots of milk and butter and whipped with beaters.. then add in parmasean cheese and chives (though the sour cream sounds awesome too!)

Mix in the sour cream, add some garlic type seasoning to taste, spread in a cassarol dish top with cheddar and bake till the top is melty and the sides of the potatoes are just a little crispy. Yumm

Another leftover idea: My mom makes turnip and carrots mashed together with every turkey dinner. The next day we make what my brother used to call "people chow" You mix the carrot/turnip mash with the mashed potatoes and put them in a frying pan with a little butter or margarine and fry and stir till little crispy bits are all through. Add salt and pepper. Eat tons, cause you should only eat this once or twice a year LOL (salt, butter, and the brown sugar mom puts in the carrot turnip mash wowza LOL not something to enjoy too often)

Now that Thanksgiving is over most of you will have left over cheese spread. Next time you make mashed potatoes add that to them.

i used to work for a large resturant chain eons ago lol. heres what they did with leftovers but it was so good customers were always requesting it

left over mashed potatoes

add sour cream

crumble cooked bacon

a little half and half or milk

spread in baking dish and cover with shredded cheese. bake until warm and cheese is melted at 350

This is not that much of a twist on an old theme, but I like to make them with evaporated milk

OR HOW ABOUT CHAMP!!!!!! ITS POTATO AND SCALLIONS {ORSPRINGONION} MASH THE POTATOS AND SIMMER A DROP OF MILK INTO A PAN CHOP UP THE SCALLIONS AND HEAT THEM UNTIL THEY SOFTEN INTO THE MILK, MASH THE POTATOS WITH A GOOD KNOB OF BUTTER AND SALT AND PEPPER, THEN POUR OVER THE HEATED MILK AND SCALLIONS, MIX TOGETHER AND SERVE MMMMMMMMMM

Wow, makes me feel like our potatoes are really plain!

If y'all want a good garlic taste to your potatoes, try boiling them with garlic added to the water. I did it once, trying to get garlic potato cubes... ended up with lightly garlicky potatoes that were ready for mashing O.O It was good, though!

Our potatoes are simple... boil potatoes till soft enough to stick a fork in easily, then drain. Mash and add butter/margarine, and milk!

Of course, we let everyone season to taste.

It's so nostalgic for me to hear about "bubble and squeak"! My mom came to Canada from Glasgow, Scotland when she was a kid. As I kid I got all the Scottish staples: blood pudding, haggis (is that how it's spelled), and....bubble and squeak! I'm glad we were exposed to different foods as kids; needless to say, we were not fussy eaters

Can't abide Bubble and squeak- try having it served for breakfast as a three year old, who has just been deprived of her Mother and has no idea where she is.!!

TOLD my Father Mother did not make me eat it- he did- I threw up all over the breakfast table and got a good hiding so....I can't bear to look at it now.

Can't say I am partial to Champ either- but I think that is because it has green bits in it!!

bloody heck rabbit....

did she ever come back..( your mother that is)???

Oh yes, she was in Hospital!!

I have to add my father could not cook anything for toffee- but it is a very unwise man or woman that attempts to force feed a three year old.

Unfortunately for me my father failed to see the funny side!I have exactly the same problems my mother was in hospital for- which is why she did not make me eat Bubble and Squeak- which we make with Brussels Sprouts by the way- sprouts are notorious for gas and I just could not keep it down mixed with mash.

It's just a phobia now, I guess!!

so you suffer from flatulence then.....he....he.........

glad your mum was ok!!!!!i thought i might have put my foot in it then...( not unusual)......

lol
