Congrats to all of you!!! he looks just stunning as usual. I do think the judges hold geldings to a little higher standard on behaving in the ring. I honestly wish some of our judges would be a little tougher about that because i have seen some really nasty horses still win in halter.

Wish i could hear the music it sounds so wonderful

Those photos gave me chills!!! Remember your other thread that mentioned how you thought you were holding him back???? I sure don't think so!!!

Glad to hear that Keith was able to get a clean catch and get the halter on.

Congratulations Susanne, Keith and Mingus!!! He looks great!

We don't know Mingus' bloodlines, since he was a rescue and we hardshipped him, but I'm certain his background is Shetland. In the show barn we were stalled near two Shetland stallions who looked like larger versions of Mingus.

We'll always wonder where exactly he came from...

Could always do a DNA test, and see if he matches up with any other Shetlands.

I know it is done all the time with the Icelandics.

Shari, I've been considering that...

We had one well-known breeder think that he could be a colt that they had sold, but after consideration I believe they felt that his star was quite different from what they remembered.

Well, I've been so busy watching the hurricane threads, I have neglected a comment on my good NW buddies! Mingus looks mahvelous, dahlink! I just bet you had a great time, was missing you guys, but getting ready to head down for nationals, is taking away the jealousy of having just one more show this year...plus I spent the rest of my show money on the two new babies. ;) So I will go down and drool over all the beauties in Tulsa to make up for it.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I would be very interested to hear if you develop a live musical performance with Mingus, Keith (and yourself?).

If I didn't know who this horse belonged to and was seeing him for the first time ever, I would honestly think he was on Erica's show string.

He looks so good.....Congratulations, you all look so happy. You give me courage to try showing for fun too!

Thank you, Russ, that is just about the ultimate compliment, as I admire Erica's horses so much!

As for going into the show ring, definitely do it! We've had a blast, even the times he's been a pill. We've gone into each show with the idea of just having fun and doing things our way -- not doing anything we didn't want to do such as balding or greasing (I really am pigheaded...apologies to all those piggies out there), so every ribbon and every compliment has come as a delightful gift.

The thing I love most is the time Keith, Mingus and I have spent in preparation -- it's an incredible bonding experience, both with our horse and with each other. When Mingus looks at me with those deep, intelligent eyes, asking what I expect of him, I am utterly blown away. He is such a sweet, loving horse, and such a character that I am constantly amazed at how lucky we are to have him in our lives.

Thank you all for your compliments and congratulations!

...and now that I've finally recovered, I'll tell the rest of the story...

HERE'S AN IDEA FOR YOU AND KEITH AND MINGUS:

Wouldn't it be way cool since he's doing liberty for you and Keith to supply the LIVE MUSIC for him? And get someone else to work him around the ring while you guys play for him.

Marty, You've just hit upon my dream...

I'd love for Keith to perform live, sitting on a chair in the middle of the arena while Mingus runs and plays. The great thing is, Mingus really loves it when Keith goes out to his corral and plays for him, so it would be a natural. As we have done it so far, I've used clavés (latin percussion sticks) instead of a lunge whip, playing in time to the music, so that could perhaps be expanded upon. (If I were better with the lunge whip, I'd crack that in time with the music...)

I don't know if it would be allowed in an actual liberty class, but perhaps we could do this as a special exhibition...Daryl has a cool idea that would make use of his engineering skills, so we might have our own special show one of these days!
