What is a horse crush?

hahahahha in austraila most vets put horses in a crush to restrain them when doing anything to them

someone must no what a crush is

throw about four pine posts in the ground and work from there is my guess. That is what I will be doing for mine when I build one

Unless you want metal, in that case you can get one made for around $1000.

Have never in my life seen a squeeze chute used on horses here, no reason for it esp with minis, I have once used a squeeze panel on a horse difficult to vaccinate, have needed no more then that.

as I drench and do all my vet things my self I need a crush

what do yous call it in your country

We don't restrain horses like livestock here in the US for the most part... A twitch on occasion or chemical restraint on the worst ones.

My horses have always been well handled and stand for vets and farrier.

My vet has a stall type thing she uses for doing teeth and other things in.

We walk the horse in and close the back gate she can give them a shot to put them under than when they

Get sleepy she puts a harness thing on thier heads to hold it up .

For my little girl she opened the front so she could get to her head to do her teeth.

I have never, to this point, needed anything like that for any of my horses or even cattle. My animals get worked with and I explain what is going on in a why they understand. Once the animal trusts you it is easy to do just about anything with them. I have even rasped gown hooks on teeth with nothing more then a halter and a helper to hold the tongue out of the way! Horses do not do well in the squeeze environment as horses are claustaphobic by nature and in my mind crushing them would be a terrifying, counter productive endevour. JMHO.

I agree with you - training and trust! Also I dont think it safe to use a crush unless you have an assistant handy in case of panic or accidents, especially when trying to restrain horses.

I'd never heard of a "horse crush" either! LOLOLOLOLOL!! Then I realized you are from a different country and figure it's like horse trailer (US) and float (British?).

So, do you really mean like a palpation chute that full size horse vets, colleges, and large AI breeding facilities use or do you mean like an actual squeeze chute that would be used for cattle (large), sheep and goats(small)?

Here are several links of both permanent and portable chutes used for horse facilities in the US. The prices are a lot more than what the one site listed in AU is... There are a couple of Mini Horse suppliers that also have Mini sized stocks - maybe you could get in touch with them to get their info on sizing? HMMM - not finding any of them!! Not sure where they went...

And here is what I built... I put a solid pallet on the ground behind larger mares with a plywood sheet as a "toeboard" to keep stallion from falling off the front of the pallet, and could breed a mare that was up to 16 hh in this set of stocks. Now I have a rubber mat where the ponies can stand. Since I built this for the larger mares, I stood a 14.2 hand mare up next to the first post and measured to figure out where the other four posts would go. The vet can US, or do teeth. I can clip, bathe etc...

The mare pictured is 13.1 hh and the stallion that stood on the ramp to cover her here is 40". She was bred to produce 2 1/2 shetlands that way - then they figured out on their own when she was running with him after the 2nd colt born. We now a 3rd one!!

In the states they are called stocks or chutes, depending on region and possibly the exact type you have. I've seen stocks at the vet clinics, but not many at farms/ranches for use with horses. We have a chute for the cattle and a table for the calves.

Here's a horse stock: http://www.priefert.com/ProductDetails/horse-equipment-49/horse-stock-325/hs

There are many other brands and styles, but this is the style I've seen most in regional vet clinics.

Cattle chutes are more enclosed.

Same here. Cattle shutes are used for cattle here

There are horse stocks, but they don't squeeze the horses.

**I thought that's what a "crush" was, but I was hoping it wasn't LOL*

I have a crush on Johnny Depp but not my horses ha ha!

I'm so making one like that wooden one. As long as it does the job XD. Our vet refuses to scan without a crush as it is OH&S issue without one and the vets wont risk being kicked.

She also said she uses it to "drench" her horse...I am assuming that means bath but the different words are fun...lol
