For anyone needing a puppy fix
default_biggrin.png

They all have their eyes open now, and they can hear (and bark and growl and whine!!!!!!!!)

They all know how to get out of the whelping box now, so I have to lock them in when Moxie needs a break!!! :DOH!

I woke up in the middle of the night to one climbing out the front (and Moxie was no where near the box, so I know she wasn't interested). So I locked up the front, and he whined, and whined, and whined....then an hour or so later, Moxie decided she needed outside...then wanted in with them :DOH!

I think the next few days are going to get interesting

Moxie's breeder said they are all really nice pups....which I am VERY happy about....but it means it is going to be unbelievably hard just picking ONE to keep
default_no.gif
I already have 2 that I am very torn over...

The one I am pretty sure I am keeping....but this other one....well it will be hard to see it go I think (unless I can figure out a way to keep it here

).

I have sent pictures to the kennel who owns the father, and they said they are all looking like really nice pups!!

Ohmygosh, they have turned from little rats into real PUPPIES!
default_wink.png

Looks like a very uniform litter, Kathryn! Congratulations!

Just wondering, how can you pick if you can't see them move yet? Is it different

for "short legged" dogs vs. the long legged ones?

But no seriously, from what I know about cardis as puppies (which isn't very much), but most go by conformation first....and hope the movement is there....and I believe that is because they are short legged, it's hard to see the movement on these guys until they have grown more (4 to 5 months, from what I've seen). The tricky part with these guys is their fronts. That is the tough one to tell. You can tell a bit (same as rears) if they are standing wide or narrow, but because they are a dwarf breed, you can get some horrible fronts which don't show up until they are almost in the show ring....feet turned out too much (that sometimes doesn't show up until they are 2), knuckling over...that kind of thing. But even though I've got my heart set on these 2...they may not be the one(s) that I end up keeping....I just really like them soo far....

That is a cute set of puppies! Oh my goodness they are sweet.

Is that an unusually large litter? Seems like a lot for the size of dog. Then again, I am not familiar with that breed so ignore me if that is a stupid statement.

Thanks!

And yes, that is on the large size for corgis...she had 10, but the first one didn't make it....

I think they average 5-7...but I have heard of 11 being naturally whelped

Oh puppies!! Lots of puppies!
default_wub.png
They're soooooo cute. Aren't you going to have fun with them all underfoot! I just bred my Cairn terrier a few weeks ago and we're "expecting" the first week of January. I haven't done puppies in years......so excited(and nervous, she's my baby!).

Yes, fun.....welll...we'll see!! LOL They started playing in the middle of the night last night...yapping, growling, whining....woke me up!!!

Today I am setting up their pen....they have graduated out of the whelping box. One of the times I peeked over at them (I am sleeping beside them on a couch...more for Moxie than the puppies), I found 2 trying to climb over the front of the whelping box
default_nono.gif
For the past few days I've had to keep them locked in, but then when Moxie wants in, I have to flip the front down for her....she won't jump over the top of it
default_rolleyes.gif
spoiled princess that she is.....

This was my first litter....and Moxie is more than my baby.....she is such huge part of my life right now. So I know what you mean about being excited and nervous. I was lucky during the section that it did turn out ok, but there was a scare during the procedure....just lucky we got in there and got it done in time! I am still debating on whether I'll breed her again....not because of any risks from this past time, but I don't think I could take the guilt if something happened to Moxie. I'm hoping to keep a daughter and see how she does in the ring, etc...and go from there..but lots of time to think about it!

Good luck with your Cairn!! And keep us posted!!! Puppy pictures are the best!!!
