We have 1 mare that we have had a problem off and on with founder she is in her stall with hay part of the day with the spring grass out only about 6 hours a day with a muzzle. She also gets no grain during this time of year. But plenty of hay. Our other horses are out about 11 hours a day and are fine on the pasture but this one mare has had a problem getting ouchy. The muzzle works well with her hopefully we can stop using it again soon.

I haven't read through the replies but wanted to say if you use muzzles, make sure they're break away for safety, but also that the horses will drink with them. I know they "can" drink with muzzles on, but you know horses -- because they can doesn't mean they will. Good luck!
