This started Wed night. First Rosie went down, acted like colic. Brought her to barn & a shot of Banamine. 30 minutes later she was ready to go again. By then Peaches went down. Same thing.
Did same to her only she wasn't bouncing back. Next morning (5 AM) another shot Banamine. By 9 AM knew it wasn't working.
Loaded her in trailer for vet. Worked on her all day. No luck. Put her on an IV rest of Thurs. Friday morning still no change & she was thrashing in the stall and ripping her IV's out. Now the decision to do surgery for $1500-$2000 & a 50/50 chance of survival. Or to put down.
Had to be realistic. Friday afternoon made the decision to have her put down. Went back to work & the vet had called to call them. Now what!
They had the truck there to haul her away, but the tailgate was stuck. Had the shot ready. When they went to lead her out she pulled her way to the hay & started eating.
So I had her put back on the IV for Fri/Sat AM. At 10:30 vet called & said I could take her home if I did nursing for her. By 1:30 she was back in her stall. She is still very sick, but is improving.
