Fancy is 260 days pregnant. Three days ago she was a little off, picking at her food.... gave her some mineral oil by mouth, temp then was 101.0....yesterday she had a couple runny stools, today more, off her feed, sick pony breath.... temp today 99.2 resp about 48 pulse also elevated.... really not her nasty self as usual.... she is much more compliant so I know she doesn feel good. I can hear gut sounds.... last time I had a horse with stinky breath it was a twist and we had to put her down..... Really hope that isnt the case this time! Vet is tied up with emergencies..... This months vet bills are going to be horrendous between This and poor GQ..... anyway.... please pray for Fancy to feel better soon.... I cant afford surgery if she should need it... she isnt one of the insured ones.....nope its just a tummy bug

LYN,

COULD IT BE A BAD TOOTH ???

Lyn I'm so sorry to her she isn't feeling well - Could the foal just be turning and has a foot in the wrong place? I know ours will get that final positioning done and sometimes it throws them off - they roll and rub and get cranky. Keep us update! Prayers are pouring in!

Sending prayers your way! You might try treating her for an ulcer. It may be something else, but treatment for that sure couldn't hurt!

Lyn I hope Fancy is well soon.... Too many little ones in trouble these days.

Thanks everyone for your prayers.... Fortunately, it isnt a twist or a colic but seems she has developed ulcers. Her temp is going up... We tubed her because he breath was nasty... my big fear of reflux was unfounded.... I learned today that chewing and her filthy water( she was dunking her alfalfa) were clues that she had started the ulcers. Fancy is a very private mare, I recently put her up in a stall to watch her at night.... baby not due for another month and a half but...which she hates and maybe she isnt too fond of GQ who is her next neighhbor... anyway. WE are giving her ranitadine, flagyl and SMZ. I elected not to do the progesterone assay to check on baby for two reasons... first my vet bill for Jan 06 is as large as all of last year and the test is 150 dollars malready and for the other....at this point if there is a fetal demise from toxins in her system.... knowing that wont make it not happpen so we are watching her close for the next 48 hours.... Every stall visit that she hasnt aborted is one day closer to a live foal..... Seems like I have two good years and then a bad one vet wise and my two years are up..... On a good note ....GQ was troting in the round pen tonight when he saw Denise come.... guess he wants to prove her wrong that he WILL get better and be driving again.

Keep us in your prayers.... with GQs meds and Fancys meds.... I feel like Im running a hospital not a farm~
