My two Miniature Horses

I am new to this forum. I just bought my first two minis in December of last year. A filly and a colt, half brother/sister (same Dam). I am not familiar with the Miniatures and what the standard is is conformation wise and pedigree wise, etc. I know they have quite a bit of show horses in their pedigree. I was hoping to get opionions on them.... I am about to send their papers in soon. I have not had the time/money to do it until now. Please no rude comments such as (UGLY). Here is some info about them that the lady I bought them from gave me:

First, "Cinnamon". Cinnamon is a 2yr old Filly. She is really small... 26.5" when I measured her two months ago. She is a dark palomino with belly splash. Here is some info from the breeder about her bloodlines:

"Cinnamon's sire is Amazing Sonrise Wee Lil Zacharia who is by Amazing Sonrise Let Freedom Ring, who won best in color as a yearling in the AMHA show circut. Cinnamon's dam is PTMS Heavens 4 Me, daughter of AMHR 2005 driving National driving champion, AF Golden Opportuny who is a son of Johnstons Gold Bar."

Next is "Boo". Boo is a cremello yearling colt (soon to be gelding). Born in July of 2010. He is 27.5" as a yearling. Here is some info about his bloodlines:

"Boo's sire, Samis White Out is a cremello stallion and stands at 29.5". White Out is double Top Banana grandson. Both sire and dam of White Out are show horses that went National AMHA. Boo's dam is PTMS Heavens 4 Me, daughter of AMHR 2005 driving National driving champion, AF Golden Opportuny who is a son of Johnstons Gold Bar. "

As I said, I am just getting into Miniatures but wanted to get horses that seemed to be pretty good. Both miniatures had lice I found a couple months after buying them, which is why they were not holding weight. I had to shave them completely (including mane)... Poor babies

Cinnamon is looking nice, Boo still needs some filling out as you can see from the pictures. Thanks for any suggestions!

Dont mind lizzie...shes all wrong...they are really really ugly and they should both come to florida and live with me...the sooner the better!!!

For being new and saying you were unfamiliar with what to look for - I think you did an awesome job picking your first two miniatures! (I say first because they are addictive!). I love your mare's color and I think they are both very nice!

WOW! You did good!! Congratulations!!

When Boo fills out he will be awsome. Sami's horses kick butt in driving classes! From the pictures they look like they might be good halter horses too. If they have good bites and straight legs, I think you should try showing in the local classes. You will have lots of fun!

Do you know how much to feed a mini? What are you feeding now and how much?

I ask this because I have found that some new mini owners feed either to much and founder the mini or sometimes feed to little. You will get lots of suggestions on what to feed or what is best. I think people in different areas feed differently, so if we new what area you are in it may make a difference. Not exact area, but at least what state.

(I just checked and i see you have had them since December, so it looks like you are on the right track feeding wise.)

I feed a small amount of hay twice a day for the both of them. Maybe a half a flake in the morning and a flake in the evening? That is for the both of them. This is about what the lady I bought from fed them. When I bought them, they were being fed straight oats for feed, but I wasn't happy with the vitamins and minerals in that so I talked to a feed specialist and they suggested triple crown lite. I now feed that. Have been for about 6 months I'd say. I'm happy with it. Cinnamon was pretty overweight when I got her and she keeps her weight better. She get a little less than a 1/2lb of triple crown lite once a day and Boo gets 1lb of triple crown lite once a day as well. I turn them out on grass a couple times a week to graze for 1 - 1.5 hours. They have free choice to loose mineral salt. Thats all I can think of as far as feeding goes. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thank you!!

Mine have gotten lice from time to time in our back pasture when sticking their heads in the bushes. No big deal, not a crime. Ivermectin kills them and so does lice dust. Amazing Sonrise used to visit the forum sometimes so she might chime in. She bred nice stuff.

Great job! Both are nice

if I may make a little suggestion-both are looking a bit 'hippy' and look as though they could use a little bit more protein in their diets. My yearlings that are refined like your boy are given free choice hay and a high protein grain (omelene 300 which I think is 16%) and fill out very nicely without being overweight and no bellies or hip/back bones sticking out. Glad your getting the mare's weight under control! Just keep an eye on her as losing muscle in the hip area and weight over the topline without losing the belly usually means more protein is needed.

It sounds like you're doing a great job and I look forward to seeing more of your 'babies' in the future!

Thanks! I more than likely won't show them. May like to in a local show sometime. I just dont know much about showing the minis. Have shown full size horses for pretty much my whole life though.

It definately looks like an arabian head. I want to get some pics of her that show her head better. Its got that cute little dishy look to it, one of my favorite things about her!

I can tell by the look on Cinnamon's face she REALLY wants to come and live in Nebraska, I just LOVE a golden palomino, They are very nice horses, You done good!!!! LOL
