My worst Christmas ever

OHHHH I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE THIS...

I took my big horse yearling Sierra to my friend's house last Saturday, to be a companion with her foal when she is weaned. Sierra loaded up beautifully and was such a good girl. She didn't run around there or anything, she always took everything in stride.

I got a call tonight that Sierra was discovered this evening with a compound fracture at her ankle. Sierra is gone.

My beautiful angel, my perfect beautiful girl, had to be put down tonight on Christmas night. I am absolutely heartbroken. There was absolutely no sign of how it had happened. She was completely stoic, and ate her hay and pellets while waiting for the vet to arrive. I can't stop crying, I just can't believe it.

Goodbye my sweet beautiful girl. Sometimes life just sucks.

Thanks everyone. People who don't have this connection with animals can never understand how something like this rips your soul in two. I am absolutely shattered. She had so much promise. I think I said in my first post that this is the horse I dreamed of my whole life, and that is absolutely true. She was not only beautiful, she was the sweetest girl ever. Which makes it just so hard to comprehend! She never did ANYTHING wrong. She was not running the fences and acting like a crazy person. She was always so steady and calm. She would back up to me so that I could scratch her itchy bottom, she would just stretch her long neck out and wiggle her lip in pure ecstacy.

Anyway, I sure do wish I could undo it, whatever happened. I wish I wouldn't have taken her there last Saturday. But it could have happened anywhere. That is the true fact of it.
