I need feed advice from two extremes.

First, since I'll be getting 2 of the Kansas Kids soon, I need to know the best Purina feed to put weight on them. Right now (at Sharons') they're getting senior feed (although it may be a different brand than I have access to) and another feed than I know I don't have access to. Soooo 2 questions about them.

#1 Since I will/may have to feed a different brand of senior feed will it be necessary to ease them into the new brand??

#2 What is the best Purina feed to help put weight on them?? Also...guess this is question 3...would a handful of soaked alfalfa cubes be a good addition to the orchard grass hay they'll be getting...or would beet pulp be good....or both??

Now...the flip side of the coin...

I have a little girl here who I've got to get some weight off of this winter. Last year I fed her a cup of Strategy twice a day with hay. She's been on nothing but pasture all summer and has continued to gain. Next time we see the vet I will have bloodwork done to check her thyroid.

Question for her is........what's the best Purina feed to take her weight off??

What in the world have I gotten myself into.

I have helped a few underweight minis.

I do the five day power pack of wormer from the vets.

I love the purina senior! It says it doesn't need hay with it but I always have costal....

I start this all really slow.

I also put in corn oil, oats, a teaspoon of jello stuff ( the powder in the box).

Then I put in beet pulb! I get the molasses (sp?) out and clean it really good.

I feed a 1/4 of a cup of BOSS..

Thats just me on that one. I have a older mare that still looks like she's ten!

To take weight off I just go to a less protein, fat content in the feed....

I hate the Senior food. Was told to put a thin horse on it once, he got worse. I have had the best luck putting weight on with either the Junior food or the Fleet Farm brand of Mare and FOal(my personal choice).
