Need help please,,,,,,,Mare way off,,,,,,,

3 year old mare.

Was bred once in late May,,,,,,,not again, changed my mind.

Noticed when I let them out in the pasture she kept laying down to eat,,,,,very much not her.

A few times she actually just dropped hard to the ground.

Brought all of them up, she went to the barn and laid down again,,,,,only she stretched out this time and stayed there. I had her get up. She went to the barn wall and pushed her butt against it,,,,,,she pooped but I believe there was some fluid, hard to tell I was about 12 feet from her and it was getting dark. I moved her into a stall and got the camera out. She has laid down probably 8 times in one hour and lays out flat, sometimes stretching. She is breathing somewhat faster.

No fever, pooping is normal, eating when she is up. Eyes are clear, gums good color, no fever. Pawing at the ground though.

If the earlier poop did have fluid, and she is aborting, how long until a fetus would appear? How long do I wait and if there is not one????

Have any other ideas?????

I know, you are no vet.

I gave her some bantamine,,,,,and something for her tummy.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Both vets on emergencies and have not heard from either.

Wanted to add,,,,,,,no rolling.

Gosh, she could be losing her foal. Sometimes it takes a while for them to abort. I hope the vet calls you soon, as it could be any number of things. What you have done so far is good and glad she is eating and drinking, pooping.

Good Grief ! That sounds similar to what just happened to my maiden mare?

Did you see my post? I listed everything that happened with her and it's quite similar but she spiked a 104.3 fever one night.

She showed some colic signs, kept stretching. laying down, sometimes flat out, rolling, Pawing. She was eating, drinking and had lots of gut sounds, pooping....

She aborted her foal five days after showing these symptoms.

The two biggest differences, mine not running a temp and not rolling.

But will continue to watch for both.

I know how stressful this is for you. my mare only got a fever on the third day of these symptoms. She also had a heavy breathing spell that same night. She was breathing fast for hours that night.

I'm sending prayers to you and hope she is okay.

They all make me nervous, but this one more so.

She is my baby.

She was born here,,,,,was the 2005 Forum baby, because believe me,,,,,it took us all to get her through a ton of things.

Born with no sucking reflex, it was one thing after another,,,,,but since all of that,,,,,,,,no problems.

My mare did the SAME thing about two weeks ago. Was laying down to eat that morning...was rolling...bring her in and stall her she was fine, stood and ate..allot of tail swishing and passing manure fine...as soon as i'd let her out to the rounpen she would roll roll roll. I fed around 8am that day...noticed instantly and had the vet out as she also has PLE and a Thyroid issue. She passed the fetus around 5pm that day....

I agree with the above.........She sounds like she's showing signs of aborting. All we've done is allow it to run its course..........You can relieve her symptoms with some banamine, but it may also extend the process. It's a "toss-up".

Something tells me you may have a long night unless she expresses the fetus soon. I'm so sorry.

I have 2 mares that just had some of the same symptoms. Silver has never been bred and hasnt been within at least 15 miles of a stud. She was just not herself. But this mare feels everything! SO emotional very girly

so when she is in, she sometimes hact a bit mopey. But after an evening, and next mornig of having to be coaxed to the feed bucket (then eats fine) I took her temp and it was 104.!!!!

Gave her banamin and she improved. Never any rolling, or any pain symptoms. Just sleepy, mopey and slow and not a ton of eating. (normal pig!) and she did the quick breathing, but just for a few hours. The whole "offness" was about 3 days. No runny anything. Now she is back to her normal self.

Then my other mare had the quick breathing and I took her temp 102. she was fine otherwise. My other 2 I have not noticed anything with them yet and I have been checking!

Sad that whatever this is makes them abort. There is no way mine are preggo but weirdly similar symptoms. Vet said a cold or something.

Her pain seemed to ease about 1:30 after more meds. Vet is not sure and we are waiting on blood work. The rest remains the same, but something sure is making her hurt. I was tired just watching her get up and down so much. She ate good this morning and will just continue to watch her.

Oh Carolyn, I'm sorry, I remember her from the forum here, I thought she was beautiful and I'm sure she still is. It sounds to me like she may be aborting too, praying for you and her.

Thanks for the good thoughts.

Wanted to let you know Prints has been better today and not on any pain medication.

She is still not up to par,,,,but is for sure better. Whatever it was eased up early a.m. and has not come back.
