I agree that we don't always hear about the threats (and don't need to) but I would certainly hope that when arrests are made and plots uncovered that the media would tell us about them.
Well if that is true and we are going to go there, then I suppose we should ban all video games that are know to promote violence...all movies/songs/books.etc...because those that use them/read/watch could all turn into evil people???Mention that hate crimes can be fueled by the unfactual crap people read or hear, and look how many jump to defend themselves. Guilty conscience, perhaps? Wow.
I'm sure that would be all we'd have time to hear about if every foiled plot was aired on the media.I agree that we don't always hear about the threats (and don't need to) but I would certainly hope that when arrests are made and plots uncovered that the media would tell us about them.
People often try to find "reasons" for their ill behavior, point is, everyone is responsible for making their own decisions and being responsible for their actions. I for one would like to keep my freedom of speech and I'm shocked that some would not.but I would not discount the likelyhood that many see such media as "proof" that their convictions are correct.
you are absolutely correct, just like your commentI did not say anything about inhibiting our freedom of speech, but a little common sense and fact checking goes a long ways before pushing "Send."
Guilty conscience, perhaps? Wow.
I could not agree more Mininik!LIKE I SAID: Viral Emails may not be THE reason, and people do need to take responsibility for forming intelligent opinions, but I would not discount the likelyhood that many see such media as "proof" that their convictions are correct. To be perfectly clear, I did not say anything about inhibiting our freedom of speech, but a little common sense and fact checking goes a long ways before pushing "Send."
That was NOT what I said at all. Appylover - I was referring to the endless, mind-numbing fearmongering that is fancied by the oft-quoted emails, bloggers and blowhards - and not the skinhead story itself. But this isn't crap that was spread by email, bloggers and blowhards. Like it or not it happened....unless you choose to believe the national newscasters just did it to spread fear.
Bassett... why so rude? There is no need for it - and yet you seem to delight in it. *puzzled*Nevermind totally not worth it.
Thank you very much Bingo. One of the smartest things we've heard from you.
Maybe because it was very obvious that McBunz was referring to the fearmongering and not the skinheads. Oh.... LOL.Are you a mind reader? How do you know what McBunz meant? LOL
