Well, it's been 3 months now since Annie (formerly named Irish) showed up here on "death's door". She is now very healthy and full of life! She has been living with our daughter, son-in-law and their 3 little boys for the past two months, but she has proven to be more than they can handle. She came with "too much baggage" and has several problems. They have been working with her on everything, but it is just too much for such a young, busy family. You literally cannot take your eyes off her...she can be destructive with chewing, getting into garbage, stealing food, peeing on floors, and dominant peeing to claim things like the beds! She is not allowed on the beds, or in the bedrooms, but like I said, if you do not have your eyes on her all the time, she does things she shouldn't. Also, because she's a hound, that nose hits the ground and she's gone. It's not as bad out here, but they live in town, and right beside the railroad tracks to boot. They have a fenced in yard, but with 3 little boys goig in and out, one left the gate iopen and away she went, and would not come when called...acted like she did not even hear her calling...nose to ground and GONE! Don't get me wrong....she has come a LONG way from what she knew when she arrived, but she is just too "determined". Personally, I think she needs a lot of exercise to wear her down and keep her HIGH energy levels down, and that will help. I am going away for a week, but I told them when I get back, I will bring Annie back here to live until I can find her a suitable home that can offer more time and dedication to dealing with her problem areas. In the meantime, I will continue working on them here.

The first 2 photos were of her the day she arrived here on December 14. (just for comparison purposes) I took the next one on February 10 when I was in their home babysitting, and the rest were just taken today, March 21, as I had their dogs here for a few days while they were away.

She has filled out lovely...maybe too much so! Once I get back from my trip and bring her back out here, she will be going for my walks with me at least once, if not twice a day. She is OK here to run loose out in the pasture when they went out to do chores with me, but she did take off with their Boxer when I let them out after a walk we went on and she slipped her collar and found out all the great smells that were out there that she was missing out on. After that, I had to tie her up every time I put them out together, and will have to continue working it that way after she moves back here.

OH MY......She is BEAUTIFUL......... Even with her "issues"........ God BLESS YOU ALL....

WOW!! What a transformation!! Well done to you and your daughter. She is a very beautiful looking dog. Really hope that, if she doesn't settle and improve her 'naughty' ways once you get her back, you will be able to find a forever home for her soon.

Again well done and thank you for saving this special girl.

Anna

WOW!! Is that the same dog?!? She looks great!! More than understand the baggage issue, glad you are still willing to work with her! Good luck and what a wonderful job you have all done!!

Wow Mona! She looks wonderful! Looks like she has her pride of self back! Wonderful. Someone will get her and love who she is.

Look at the shine on that coat!

You and your daughter did a wonderful thing! I hope you feel the pride that you should feel. he change is incredible.

Thank you,

Bonnie

Look at that beautiful color she has! What a transformation! Hopefully you can work out some of her issures, and I think you are right, she probably is a dog that needs a lot of exercise.

I agree with everyone else Mona. Ya done good.....she's one fat, slick, happy hound dog. Now to just find her a place where she can hunt all day long and sleep where it's nice and warm.

Great job on the rehab. She looks amazing. You really can't change the basic nature of a coonhound. They are bred to hunt and run for hours following the scent of the coon. They are very adept at jumping over fences and climbing over things and out of pens.We have one here who will slip his collar and chain and take off.He is now up in the kennel with 6 foot high sides. With some that is not enough to keep them contained. If they get loose they can travel as much as 15 miles from home sometimes more.Hopefully you can find her a home with somone who is a hunter who will appreciate her natural talents. She may have been turned loose because she is considered a junk or trash dog-one who will run deer or foxes.True coon hunters don't want the dog running anything except racoons. My significant other has raised and hunted coonhounds since he was a kid-he's now 66.good luck with your project. If we were closer I know he would take her in a minute.

You gave her life and that's a wonderful thing.

Sometimes the nature of animals is hard to overcome

outside what they were bred to do.

Maybe her next person will use her for what she was

intended.

The important thing to remember is that because you

saved her and brought her back to glory she

has that chance for a wonderful life.

You did GOOD!!!

We had a coon hound when I was a kid. When we moved from the country to a city lot dad so wanted to keep his one hound Sadie. The first Sunday morning we lived in the new house Sadie was over the fence and gone Baying as she went. Dad knew he couldn't keep her in the city and placed her with a coon hunting buddy. She just didn't make a good pet.

Oh my goodness she looks wonderful!!!! Look at her shiny coat and the calmness in her eyes. You all did a wonderful job bringing her back. I too am one who would love to take her if I could....she would do awesome in tracking events!!

Annie is absolutely beautiful!!! You have done a wonderful job - she looks amazing!!!

Sorry she is not working out with them but she looks FANTASTIC!!!! I cant believe it's the same dog!! WOW!

Unfortunately, her behavior is a lot of what I saw of typical hound behavior back when I was married and my husband had a bunch. They are very destructive, dig, howl and bark non stop, will run for HOURS and very typically DO NOT LISTEN. They go deaf the second they are off the chain or out of the kennel (and even then have 'trouble' hearing). We had to put a chain link floor in the kennel and cover it with dirt, then also put a complete roof on it to attempt to keep them contained. Hounds just dont make great pets if you want something whose attention is on you and wants to please, and wants to stay with you....

My niece one time when she was little was SO excited about their blue tick hound.... she came running in to her mom and said "I got the dog to sit!!!!! And I only had to tell him 12 times!!!"

She is a beautiful dog and perhaps with a more active routine or something, she will do better.

She may have been turned loose because she is considered a junk or trash dog-one who will run deer or foxes.
Then too, it is entirely possible that after her pups were weaned, (just, from the looks of her) she took off on her own. Who knows how far or for how long she ran...those dogs can TRAVEL!

Yup, that's a hound for ya.

Mona you and your daughter did a wonderful job of rehab, what a transformation. Her coat is shiny and I can't believe the difference, what a little TLC will do. I hope you find a forever home for her soon.
