basically because they have to wait for there daughter to get home w/ her papers. OMG isnt she precious. I wanna name her Appy so bad ...but i think i should call her Charmin' since its in her name. Im going to show her in Jumping hopefully.

QUESTION:

When showing ponies around 13 hands .... when jumping can you run beside them like you do w/ mini's or do you have to ride them. Bc i know im to big for her when she gets older ....but if i was to show her in jumping would it be like you do w/ minis?

Thanks

BTW: i still have to posts pics of Joey! We got him about a month ago (what a *JUMPER*). I will post a thread on him soon ..just gotta upload pics, blahh.

She is very pretty! I love bay and bay with a blanket is great! You can call a horse whatever you want regardless of their registered name. She won't care

Hi Coco,

Your new addition is very pretty. Use to have a "big" horse appy that looked just like her back in high school.

You would ride your new POA in your jumping events. Not run beside her.

I will have to get my 7 yr old nephew to ride her then in a couple years. Im 5'8 and dont think i would look to good on a 13 hand pony

.

If she is going on 4 month old ...do you guys think she is weaned, i forgot to ask the guy. Also how would you feed one ...ive never had one this young before.

i cant wait to bring her home, were building a stall after another trip to Low's. The boys are going to go crazy ...6 gelding that have not seen a mare in 2 years, this should be fun!

Why do you think you are too big to ride a 13h pony? I just looked at a 13h quarter pony mare that is being ridden by a man. She's being used as a Ranch pony.

I would just feel awkward, but i will see when she gets older.

When is the usual Weaning age for them? I think she is but im not 100% sure, i might call the guy tonight.

What a pretty gal she is and I hope she will be everything you want in a pony and more. I would ride a 13 hand pony...gee they are tough as nails. I used to ride a 38" Shetland pony most-all days when I was a kid. I wasn't over 5 foot and over 100 lbs., but he could go all day and then some. Ponies are tougher than you think. POA's where developed by a long time Shetland breeder, Mr. Leslie Boomhower when he crossed a Shetland pony with a Appaloosa horse...so thar ya go.

Enjoy her

opps sorry I didn't answer your weaning question
wacko.gif

Most people I would say wean from 4-6 months depending of how well the foal is looking and what negative affects the foal might be taking from their mama's. My this years colt, I am not going to wean until next spring as I read something in Equus about keeping them on their dam's as long as you can for preventing possible mental problems in foals....just an experiment

Good luck!
