For those who made New Year's resolutions, how are you faring with them? The year's now 1/12th under way!

I did make some this year. Basically my primary one was to loose weight. I've been low-carbing since just before the first of the year and been sticking to it with no "cheating", but I do sometimes get too much into the low carb candy and low carb ice cream. Also, about 2 weeks into the year, I started walking an hour a day. Just back and forth across my house, but it's working and my heart rate gets to where it's supposed to be for a "work out".

Truly, I do not want my butt to be bigger than my horses when I'm in the show ring!!! AND, I don't want people who see me driving my little Derby (31.25") to feel sorry for him. The weight is not dropping as fast as I'd wish. Really, what your moms tell or told you about metabolism slowing as you age is so true! But, it's coming off steadily and I already feel SO much better w/o all the sugar in my system. Tons more energy, no headaches (after the severe sugar withdrawal that is) and a much more level mood where I don't feel on the verge of loosing my temper at the drop of a hat.

Last year's resolution for me did not get followed through on. It was to really not buy any more horses and to do better about "using" the ones I had more to their potential. Well, I think it was like 4 new horses last year and 1 this year. However, this year, I really am "using" what I have with getting prepared to show and with sending my best two mares out to be bred to stallions I very much admire.

SO, what about you folks?

I made the same one for the last two years.

It was to improve myself and to be a better person.

Last year I was doing pretty good and seemed to made good decisions and to be more understanding and tollerate, and to stop being a doormat, etc.

This year so far, I'm not doing so well. :new_shocked:

I made two this year.

1) Start Eating Healthier -HAH!!!. The first 2 weeks, i think i did nice. I need to pick back up on that though. I was supose to eat 1 turkey sub or salad each day at least,

2) Do some real showing this year -Well i havnt had a chance to wreck that resolution yet and i think this one might actually happen if all goes well.

...nothing like a new years resolution to make you feel like a hypcrit!

Mine was to drink less soda, more water

I have been doing good with that. I have been only having 1 can a day of soda. I have a few bottles of water a day

Still no new horses and did sell one to a perfect person

: AND I have "not" taken the scissors to my hair "yet". Gettin shaggy, I fit right in with the scruffy minis!

Mine was to get the barn finished and more fencing up. So far, I have finished most of the outside of the 6 stall barn but we decided to add 4 more stalls. The fencing will come after the barn is finished because I won't have an animal without shelter. So far, so good, right on schedule! It is kind of hard though when I only have 1 day a week off work.

Mine was to simplify my life. I have been doing quite well with material things. However, I did see a horse today that I am thinking about.

I know CKC is doing good on her resolutions because we talk all the time

And, I think that this specific colt she's seen in really nice, too

Another resolution I had and sticking so good to is keeping my house nice and neat and clean! The energy to do it though is directly related to sticking to my diet and exercise program. Keeping it looking so nice has really also improved my mood.

I will not share what mine is. And its more of a several year resolution, however this year was the year I chose to make if finally start to happen. So far, im doing ok I guess.

Well, I had a gut feeling for most of last year that 2006 was going to be MY year. That things were finally going to fall into place, all the struggles we've been through will finally be left behind.

So, based on that, I just decided to make sure that 2006 was going to be a great year. That would be my resolution. No one thing in particular, just a better year than years past.

So far the last 2 months have been awesome! And there are things to come that will make it even better, but I won't share those just quite yet.

The good stuff so far: We were able to finally buy a 2nd car after more than a year with only one. We've been decluttering (and doing quite well!!!), have been able to make some improvements in the house, finally upgraded our cell phone plan (and got new phones and got my oldest daughter a phone too). We are getting wireless internet within the month (and replacing our old dial up!!! woohoo!!! :aktion033: ). We ended up with enough money to stay put at our current house. :aktion033: Have enough money to send our youngest to preschool finally (and boy oh boy is she excited!!!). Our tax refund will be just enough to cover the last of our credit card debit!!!! YAY!!!

The next 3 months prove to be very interesting and exciting working towards making this an awesome year.

I can say that after 12 years of being a stay at home mom, the prospects this year bring are very welcome!! It's time for me to move on and move forward now that the kiddos are growing up.

: I've loved being a stay at home mom though and wouldn't trade it for the world (even though we were dirt poor most of the time and barely keeping a roof over our heads during quite a few of those years).

With all the positives so far this year, it's easy to keep motivated. The only negative was that we decided to put getting another dog/puppy on hold for another year until we see where we end up at the end of this one. Too many changes going on this year to bring a new pup home. But if THAT is the only negative this year, I'll be ok with it!

Mine was too lose weight. Very hard time to do that.

Walking alot, lifting weight for the first 2 weeks, i got so bored and wasn't losing weight. Than decided to eat healthier, well it was making me sicker and I started eating more unhealthy things.

I got off the wagon a couple of times. Than I went to a herbal doctor, alot of things were wrong with, I feel much better already, and she gave me healthier choices on foods, i was doing good on that, however the weekends I need to eat regular things, the work week I'm good. Now I just need to find a better exercise program. Still trying here but not doing too good lol.

PS: NO MORE FAST FOOD, AND IM NOT EVEN CRAVING IT! :bgrin

Jamie --

Maybe you could walk like I am. I know, it's got to sound really stupid, but I just TIVO trashy tv (like Judge Judy, etc.) and then I "watch" those programs while I walk, just back and forth. I do it for an hour and at the end of the time, I check my heart rate and it's where it should be for "cardio health" workout but I'm not exhausted at all. I actually look forward to the walking. The hardest part is just fitting in an hour of it a day, but I think 40 minutes would be a good amount, too. I do it in the morning thinking it boosts my metabolism for the rest of the day. Also, I try to not weigh myself every day as that leads to frustration. Also, drink LOTS of water

Thanks Jill

Yeah I was thinking of doing something like that, watch it during the soap operas, you want to watch them but you know you rather do something else lol.

Yep my herbal doctor is making me drink water. But so far its going pretty well, she instructed me to put lemon juice in it because thats what my body needs right now and its good and makes me drink even more

: So maybe thats my good advice for those wanting to drink more water. Not those artificial flavors get the real thing.

Pretty good:

1)Lose weight/be more active. I asked for and got a new exercise bike for Xmas (got it one month early) since my old one was so noisy and it was uncomfortable for me for some reason. This one is a reclining one and I put 100 miles on it by the time Xmas rolled around. I have since added 328 miles and lost about 20 lb. this year alone. Also, I run or jog for short distances outside (when it's not TOO mucky so I don't fall in the slop), b/c I DO want to take Mouse in a couple jumper or Hunter classes this year. I try to ride at least 10 miles on the bike every day, takes about 45 minutes, and I try to stay in the Endurance/Performance range for speed and intensity.

2): Be less "short" and snappy w/my kids and family/friends. I am doing just OK on this, it's a hard habit to break, but I don't want to be an old crab!

3) Make sure to keep chipping away at clutter/unnecessary things and not add more. Did a lot of this last year, but continuing to keep up on it, taking out little bits at a time for various reasons instead of having it build up to truckloads like we were up against last Summer.

4) Grab all the opportunities for life and love since I know these are what is "good" about being alive and it isn't forever (being alive). Doing pretty well at this one, I'm happy to say. :D

Congratulations to all of you who are working on making yourselves happier, healthier and better, overall.

Liz M.
